In episode 3 of season 1, Bear Grylls traverses into a Costa Rican rainforest to demonstrate how to survive with a knife and a water bottle. This episode was successful in demonstrating how to survive by showing a mindset needed in that environment, while still being enjoyable for those who will not be going out into the wilderness. Throughout the episode, Grylls showed a calm and somewhat serious attitude when dealing with difficult situations—such as when he had to push himself or do something risky—and he occasionally emphasized that a person needs to keep their spirits in order to survive somewhere like the rainforest. Though he could have been better prepared, he wanted to prove that he could survive with the bare minimum. He always proceeded with at least some caution—and with a lot of caution towards food—and tried to make use of his strength and surroundings.
