I am a fan of turn-based strategy games and Firaxis' more streamlined XCOM series for modern consoles really hit a balance between meaty strategy on a small scale and just enough accessibility. It was one of my favourite games of the last generation and the new one is even better. The punishing difficulty level of even its lower level settings serves to give a very real sense of accomplishment and almost desperation that is uniquely satisfying and absent from almost anything else like on consoles. You WILL have soldiers that you just recently leveled up and carefully personalized unexpectedly die. That makes it all the more poignant, rewarding and even somewhat personal when you eventually slaughter the alien scumbag that just killed your character named after your elementary school buddy.
