While it has good world building and story, a fun vigors system, and the thrilling rail sequences, the gunplay feels very clunky and I'm not down with how you're locked out of vigor upgrade choices before realising you probably picked the wrong ones (as some are indeed as useful as a chocolate teapot). I can definitely recommend it for its story, but I'm not sure if I can for it's FPS gameplay.
Although the difficulty curve may be very steep for those new to paradox game, EU4 is most certainly the cream of the crop of grand strategy, and you'll find it very hard to go back to games like Civilization after it, thanks to its deep gameplay and replayability. Sadly, I do have to penalize it somewhat for its DLC policy, which makes it ridiculously expensive to get properly started off with,
An absolute pile of dross. It's functional but thats about it. It's story is atrociously incoherent, it's multiplayer is uninspired and it just plays like a watered down Modern Warfare.
Positives of this game are I'd say the tight gunplay, the fairly open levels, the interesting airdrop mechanic (even if it's just really a tiny part of the game) and - though its an even smaller thing - the partial regenerating/permanent health system. My main complaint is it's pathetically short campaign which would make the average campaign of today's EAs games look decent in comparison. I never played it's online but I'm assuming its a steaming pile of horse manure. All in all though it's an above average WW2 shooter with enough little interesting bits for it to be worth playing.
An absolute gem ****. Almost infinitely replayable, brutally difficult and it's random element is what keeps the game fresh without screwing you over tooo hard that the game just becomes frustrating. There's no reason not to own it when it costs about the same price as a McDonald's saver menu.
Even though I played it 10 years too late it's still easy to see why it is one of the greatest PC games of all time. Amazing graphics and physics for its time and it's gameplay is faultlessly designed.
Truly a unique game. The best MMO ever made for kids. The combat is easy to learn, hard to master, and there is tons (or should I say 'toons!') of appeal for teens and adults, both in gameplay and some of the references. Grinding boss battles is too tedious for most kids, but in general this is, erm, was, the perfect child MMO. What a shame it finally had to close.
This is probably the finest co-op game out there. The gameplay is perfectly balanced to the difficulty you choose, punishing you if you mess up, tweaking the difficulty depending on your performance; the AI director is great for the pacing. The vs mode is the surprise winner. The strategy needed to defeat the other team is incredibly rewarding, pulling off a perfect infected attack injects adrenaline straight to your joy department. The only problem is playing without allies, but that shouldn't be popular for such a popular game.
The general gameplay of Payday 2 feels like a big clunky mess. Guns feel bulky yet weak considering the enemies you face. The game allows strategy only until you inevitably alert the police, then the coordinated gameplay just falls into run and gun with the bags to the escape car. This game is only fun if you can play with 3 other people with mics, preferably trustworthy friends. Otherwise you are gonna have a bad time. Other games do co-op in a much smoother, polished fashion than this, like Left 4 Dead. I would choose that other this any day.
There is absolutely no reason why you should not play this game. It is a wonderful magical blend of perfect game mechanics, a great storyline and absolutely hilarious dark humor. Definitely one of the defining games of the generation and the best puzzle game ever. Period.
As someone who does not usually play Sonic games, the night levels were probably a saving grace for me. Day levels feel too hectic and completely reliant on trial and error; you are running too fast to dodge anything! In addition, having to save up sun and moon tokens to unlock levels is just taking the piss, and was on Sega's part a terrible design decision. With day levels especially, having to treck back and snoop around for medals is hugely frustrating. On the plus side, I thoroughly enjoyed the night levels, although enemies are a little predictable with attacks. The reason this doesn't give it a positive review is that a Sonic game is meant to be about the 'proper' Sonic game play, and it doesn't get that part right. Sonic Unleashed was nice idea by Sega but it crashes and burns.
First things first, STOP CALLING IT A CARBON COPY OF GAME DEV STORY! It is a lot more than that and just takes inspiration from it. In my opinion, the gameplay is even more absorbing than GDS as it requires a lot of input on your part. While there are frame rate issues once the game gets hectic towards the end, GDT is a very enjoyable business simulation that I could play over and over again.
As long as you don't mind a lot of explosions, and don't care much about realism or story, you will find it hard to stop playing this game. The problem with Grand Theft Auto is that it tried too hard to be realistic and gritty, and it lost track of what a sandbox like that is supposed to be, fun. Just Cause 2 works because it's Chaos system is kind of a reward for doing whatever you want; it rewards your freedom in a way. Whether you want to sabotage a mountain military base or just throw grenades at passing cars, as long as you are blowing something up, you are progressing the game, while games like Grand Theft Auto merely let you commit mass destruction for the heck of it. The story is terrible, but that isn't what the developers focused on, and it is pretty obvious when you hear some of the voice acting, and becomes even more apparent in some of the boss fights (I won't spoil them). In summary, this is probably the ideal game to play after a stressful day at work/school, where only excessive violence can calm your nerves. There are a few issues that in most games would cause me to demote their rating, such as the occasional glitch, the inability to shoot while inside a car ect, but I have so much fun the rest of the time I can't think of giving this game anything less but a full 10.
