I'm going to be very harsh here because nobody else seems to be. You're telling me this is better than Hellraiser 2022? This??? This is the most generic, cynical, joyless and frankly flaccid horror movie of this decade. I doubt it'll be topped. It's horror movie bingo. Trauma subtext? Check. Cheap jumpscares? Check. Fake out ending? Check. Every **** scene is so predictable it just grated on my nerves. Even the concept is uninspired. I get it, horror perverts the familiar but smiling is not scary. In real life I'm sure it'd be offputting but here it just does not work. There are no stakes. I laughed more at it than jumped. Some moments here and there were decent, but the movie takes itself deathly seriously to diminishing returns. I like popcorn horror but this is kernel horror. Watch literally any of this movie's inspirations and you'll get more out of the experience. It feels like a 14 year old wrote this movie.
Way better than Prey since the character has an internal struggle and an arc. Pretty creepy and visceral, I'm a fan of David Bruckner. A lot of negative reviews seem to be dogwhistling under the guise of "duh it's not accurate to the book" when an androgynous Pinhead is more accurate. I can get it where people who are die hard fans take issue with changes to the lore and theme or whatever. I don't remember liking the original all that much so I guess I'm not the target demo. I don't think anyone is srupid for disliking it unlike Last Jedi fans. I just hope it's not for the wrong reasons (based on the Pinhead recast)
I can't **** believe IMDB, RT and the critic score on here. This movie is good. Beauty and the Beast and Pocahontas **** ass. This movie is based as ****
Maybe Tarantino is an overrated hack idk. He loves to parade the fact that he went to film school but I'm convinced he just failed upwards with Pulp Fiction and Kill Bill. The movies are well directed but writing is not his strong suit. He can come up with fun snappy dialogue and cool characters but he rarely explores either in meaningful ways. This was a slog.
This movie was unfairly **** on tbh. A lot of critics expected a **** Marvel movie. It's not amazing but I appreciate it taking risks. Don't expect the first movie. Didn't people criticise the sequel for being too goofy? Ffs
Pretty interesting overall, I do wish some things were more elaborated on, there are a few pretty interesting readings of what the threat of the movie is. Interesting and creative visuals and setpieces, Rebecca Hall is really good in this as well
Throws whatever themes it wants to at the wall to see what sticks. People think that because it has a lot of ideas and is shot well means it's a good movie
