The Terror

It’s a rare mix of adaptation and anthology storytelling done right; what does “The Terror” have in store for us next? I’m afraid to find out, and that’s a very good thing.

Borenstein and Woo show a great deal of trust in the core story, the grand production design, and the modern parallels to carry most of “Infamy’s” emotional heft. While each beat of the story may play out as you expect, that inevitability largely makes the action itself more haunting.

“The Terror: Infamy” takes great pains to depict the full horror of internment, including the psychological toll it took on detainees. ... “Infamy” is thematically rich beyond that, especially in how it navigates the old ways, the new, and the messy realities in which they collide. The struggle between assimilating and honoring one’s cultural history is painful and knotted for many immigrants, and it’s given room to breathe here.

The series moves along briskly (including a finale that feels a little rushed) and benefits greatly from Stevens' intense performance and those of the ensemble surrounding him.

It's a campfire tale that won't jolt you immediately, but it packs an unsettling punch that lingers. Woo and Borenstein have also illustrated how The Terror is, indeed, a franchise beyond that original yarn Dan Simmons spun.

The resulting series feels more rushed and less contextually nuanced than its predecessors. It’s a simmering cauldron of spooky, disturbing elements that never quite comes to a boil in terms of frights or theme.

The result is suspenseful and atmospheric but slow-burning to the point of inertia. The story works better as a righteously angry family saga than a fantasy chiller. Worth a look out of historical interest but for far superior drama, seek out the first series.

Amazing watch, I could not stop watching during the holiday weekend. If you love period pieces, suspenseful slow burn type thrillers this is up your alley. So people criticize about "the bear", don't want to give to much away but it did not turn me off the series but instead gave it a Jaws-esque type quality. The cast was amazing, and each cast member stole the show at certain times in the series. 8/10 - not for everyone, but if it hits your interests you'll wonder how you ever missed it!

A great historical premise that gets ruined by a ridiculous bear that attacks the crew.

I really want to love this but am having a hard time understanding the characters due to accents.

I just left it playing in background after watching first few episodes, because for the most time, it was simply boring AF. The thing is, this is fiction and author could create anything, and yet, i found the movie about real life survivors - Alive - soooo much more interesting. They should make it miniseries, or regular movie instead, because in it's current form, it's just a waste of time.

What a dull show. Forced drama. Skip this one. Gay character is there just b/c.
