Conservative at best, which in this case means uninspired, boring, close to objectively bad. That includes the discussed topics, the acting, the dialogue, the music, the cut, the directing. I am not saying don't watch it. Go ahead, watch it. See it yourself.

I have no idea how this show got a rating. Hardly any of the dialogue fits the character. Not funny, not insightful, just embarrassing. What viewer finds it entertaining when one of the characters mistakes the cheese on the casserole for marshmallows? Throw the cheese in his face! Give him real marshmallows! Tell him to leave! Tell him the only thing cute is me! Do something! But no, nothing happens! Just banal filler with no substance. The first 25 minutes could be cut, and the show would benefit. The first 25 minutes have to be explosive to make viewers want to watch eight episodes, and then another 16. Pace! Jokes! Suspense! Mystery! And here... a marshmallow on a casserole...

O final dá um ****, emboracorra o risco de passar uma "compensação" pelo crime indesejada, espero que não interpretem desse modo. Embora a estrutura sistemática do tráfico envolva instituições diversas, fica longe de uma realidade tipo a do Rio de Janeiro, Ceará etc. É algo que se concentra em poucos personagens, mais intimista,inclusive com momentos delicados. Mark Ruffalo não está na melhor fase, mas também garante um saldo acima da média.

Mark Ruffalo heads this strong cast as an FBI agent working in the Philadelphia suburbs. When a string of violent robberies results in murders and a big heist, he assembles the task force to find the culprits. This was created by Brad Ingelsby, who’s “Mare of Easttown” is a similar dramatic series with the focus on character. While the criminal case drives the plot, it’s the stories behind the people that become the most intriguing aspect. In addition to Ruffalo’s expectedly fine performance, he’s joined by a complex and moving Tom Pelphrey, as the main crook and Emilia Jones, who’s equally compelling as the daughter caught in the middle. Toss in Martha Plimpton, as the FBI boss, who adds some fun with her gruff, messy portrayal. The story takes time to develop and it’s only about halfway thru the series that things become more involving. The plot itself doesn’t have any real surprises (the mole is a standard trope), but it’s strong enough and sufficiently grim to keep the show mildly involving. (7 one-hour eps

I knew I would love this so as soon as I read Lucy Mangan's two-star review on Guardian. It was captivating, engaging, deep. Mark Ruffalo is a real treat as always. This one is more for GenX rather than a younger audience as it is actually a coherent story that needs attention and cannot be watched while flicking through reels and whatnot. Thank you, and more like this one, please.

'Taks' appeals to personal rediscovery, redemption, and selfish love to develop his imperfect protagonists. While it doesn't come close to revolutionizing the genre, not to mention spending a fair amount of time on somewhat irrelevant subplots (such as one involving an adopted daughter), Brad Ingelsby's new series is very enjoyable, and the plot twists prove to be satisfying.

Such an amazing show from start to finish I was hooked from the very beginning Mark Ruffalo was an amazing choice..Hopefully they continue with this

This is must watch TV! Superb writing and acting! Don’t like Mark Ruffalo? You’ll love him in this! Emmy worthy performances and especially surprising when you realize that several actors are foreign but master the unique Pennsylvania dialect! The message about faith lost and faith found is relatable. Unlike most limited series which should have been 90 minute movies and not 8 or more 90 minutes episodes Brad gives us exactly what is needed to move the plot forward without useless filler dialogue ad nauseam! I didn’t see how the stories could be wrapped up in Episode 7 and yet magically we were given succinct and stunning resolution in record time! Bravo! I look forward to Brad’s next project! Hey Brad an idea for a project for you are characters in a setting like my small backwards hometown (where Road to Perdition was filmed) which is strangely a mix of farms, horse breeders, mobsters (the Jaynes), refugees from the City of Chicago and country bumpkins. It was a very odd mix of conflicting values.

His presence grounds the series, while the rest of the cast gives life to characters that feel genuinely lived-in. The bleak beauty of Pennsylvania’s landscapes adds a melancholic texture that lingers long after the credits.Brad Ingelsby, creator of Mare of Easttown, returns to his favorite territory: ordinary people fighting invisible wars. The series is good but falls flat on its face in the last episode. Almost every scene is badly written, badly directed & badly acted.

I’m six episodes into Task and I’m honestly blown away. What a piece of filmmaking! Brilliantly written and acted — everything just clicks, everything’s exactly where it should be. There’s one episode left, and I have no idea how HBO plans to wrap it up, but this is an absolute knockout. One of the best shows of the year. Maybe the best?It’s created by the showrunners of Mare of Easttown. The cast is top-tier: Mark Ruffalo, Tom Pelphrey, plus some lesser-known faces who are just as outstanding. The music hits perfectly, too.Highly recommended. Best to go in without reading too much — just let the creators tell their story. It’s not only the plot that delivers here. For me, it’s a show about violence — about the whole cycle of it, and how much harm it causes to everyone around. Totally worth watching.

Starts out good but grim and just gets better as it goes on. The characters are and their relationships are wonderfully and patiently developed. Superb writing and acting.

Great show, not as good as mare of Eastown but a really good follow up. Mark Ruffalo is brilliant in the lead role. Looking forward to its conclusion.

A pretty shameless attempt at repeating the minor success of Mare of Easttown. Essentially a copy-paste of the plot dressed up in new sprites. Ruffalo plays a predictably troubled former priest turned FBI agent who lost his faith and drinks too much (remind you of someone). The hacky Philly accents are back in full force but this time they aren't charming at all. The villain, who they spend way too much time with, is nothing but boring.

From the first few minutes of the first episode, the attention to detail was on the screen and you immediately knew you were in good hands. From the amazing opening song from Dan Deacon, to the actors telling you their lifetimes through only facial expressions and their situation/station in life--a masterclass in show, don't tell. Only a few episodes in, but already enjoying it more than Mare of Easttown, which I thought was an amazing show. TV has been in a slump since the writers' strikes, and I'm so happy it is back to form and at its best. If you need to know you're author, my current greatest shows of all time: 1) Sopranos, 2)The Wire, 3) The Leftovers, 4) Mr. Robot, 5) Breaking Bad.

It may seem like a countrified American retread of Slow Horses, but without the British humor. Mark Ruffalo is excellent as always and the show keeps getting better, yet more tragic. Here’s hoping there’s another season in the works.

The moment I saw Mark and Tom on the cover, I knew this show was going to be awesome. And I was right. The first two episodes blew my mind. Of course, the writing (courtesy of Mr. Brad) was top-notch. Another win for HBO.

Kind of slow and too gritty. It misses the story dwelling on the scenery. The acting seems disjointed and unsure what it's supposed to convey. Didn't like Ruffalo much as his normal demeanor doesn't seem to mesh well with his role. The whole show seemed like a bizarre Steven King story run off the rails. Our view is: "don't waste your time on this as there are many more better mystery shows to watch."

Typical HBO "Cops carrying with a darkness" show, but looks solid, will keep watching for sure.

"Task" is a beautifully tragic crime drama with emotional complexity, provocative themes and anchored by two powerhouse performances from Mark Ruffalo and Tom Pelphrey with a potent vein of raw humanity running through the whole thing and doesn't let you down. Brad Ingelsby has clearly found his niche. After giving us Kate Winslet as a tough Pennsylvania cop in HBO’s Mare of Easttown a few years back, Ingelsby is going back to the well again with "Task," a new HBO crime drama set in the same Pennsylvania backwoods and hitting a lot of the same emotional notes. Mark Ruffalo stars as veteran FBI agent Tom Brandis, who’s assigned to lead a task force to catch a gang of low-level crooks who’ve been putting on Halloween masks and ripping off local drug dealers, in a scheme reminiscent of Apple TV+’s recent Dope Thief. Leading that gang is hotheaded Robbie, played by Ozark’s Tom Pelphrey, and when his best-laid plans go wrong, Task shows us the cascading collateral damage that can stem from a single mistake — and the ripple effect can be overwhelming. There’s no real mystery for us to solve here: We know who did the crime, and why. But we’re invested anyway, because Ingelsby’s writing gets us emotionally involved by humanizing both the cops and the criminals. Robbie and his crew aren’t pure evil — Pelphrey shows us a tender side to Robbie in scenes with his fractured family — and Tom and the cops sure aren’t perfect, either, willing to bend the rules for the greater good. Like the De Niro-Pacino classic Heat, as cop and crook head towards their inevitable showdown, we’re not even sure which side we’re rooting for. Told across seven hour-long episodes, the show takes its sweet time getting to know its characters, and as with Mare, Ingelsby’s patience and keen observation skills elevate this several notches above the standard TV crime drama. Characters are given room to breathe and joke around, and every scene feels lived-in and grounded. (Ingelsby obviously knows eastern Pennsylvania like the back of his hand, setting the show in leafy enclaves and smoky bars with Springsteen on the jukebox.) But "Task" also delivers on the action front, just like Mare did, with nail-bitingly tense scenes that slowly ratchet up the tension to suffocating levels. It’s on a psychological level, though, that "Task" really shines, with its characters carrying around heavy parcels of buried trauma that aren’t buried very well. (Everyone is struggling on some level; some have just gotten good at hiding it.) Tom has a horrific event in his past that he’s still processing, mostly by downing big plastic cups of vodka every night, and Robbie still hasn’t come to terms with a loss in his own life, which leads to him making rash decisions in the present. Featuring a great cast of supporting players from Emilia Jones as Maeve, Robbie's 21-year-old niece who often takes care of her young cousins and Fabien Frankel, Thuso Mbedu and newcomer Alison Oliver as the detectives who join Tom's task force to investigate the robberies It’s that kind of complexity that makes "Task" a fascinating watch — and sets it up as a prime acting showcase. With all this psychological trauma and bloodshed, "Task" can be a touch on the grim side, although there are some slices of natural comedy to be found in the quieter scenes. It sags a bit in the middle, too, bogged down by flashbacks and a late twist that feels like maybe one wrinkle too many, but it rallies for a truly thrilling climax. It’s a satisfying, cinematic piece of storytelling that lingers long after you’ve watched it, and it nobly carries on the grand legacy of HBO’s vaunted Sunday night dramas.

Based on the first episode, Task is a pretty compelling crime drama from the creator of Mare of East town also on HBO. The plot is a bit too dark for my preference, but otherwise the writing is mostly consistent and interesting. There is a suspense and drama element that is pretty well done. It’s not quite The Wire from early HBO quality, but it’s well done enough I think it’s more like a good crime movie than a basic tv show. I wasn’t sure it would be worth watching but now I’m going to watch the rest of the show most likely.
