It’s easy to believe they are family. The banter and bickering are snappy, and the tactile performances make it hard to tell who to love and who to dropkick.

“Line of Fire” has all of the essential elements that make procedural dramas so fun.

It’s a conspiracy thriller, wrapped inside an episodic procedural, stuffed into a dysfunctional family comedy, and it’s the combination of these elements that keeps the show buoyant — fleet, essentially light — notwithstanding the suspense and tension and shootings and stabbing.

Line of Fire arrives with a splashy, attention-getting concept, but it seems to work best at its most basic level. Maybe people will tune in for the mystery thriller of it all, but it's the five Hollingsworths working as a unit, and their complicated family baggage, that should keep people coming back.

For now, Line of Fire's drama remains on the right side of the divide between juicy and obnoxious. It helps that the chemistry among the ensemble is believably familiar.

Peter Krause's new NBC drama "Line of Fire" misses the mark, bogged down by too much plot, not enough character, and one particularly ludicrous twist.

It’s definitely a reminder of blue bloods but more intense. Family of law enforcement and a lawyer. Solving crimes and family drama. The family drama is the tea! The plot about the dead brother has me intrigued. The actors are good. It’s a quality show.

I had hoped it would reflect the genuine diversity of the world we live in. It felt a bit too sanitized, and the performances were unfortunately consistent with a lackluster standard. I intend to use this time to attend to household chores unless the cast improves, the writing quality increases, and the performances reach a higher standard.
