The season finale suggests that English Teacher will be looking to evolve in the future, with the current crop of students moving on and the teachers going through some major relationship changes. For now, though, it’s found the sort of cozy stasis that truly great sitcoms flourish in.

It’s a sitcom, so there are jokes that don’t land and set-ups that feel forced, but there’s an ease to season two that’s borne of the success of season one – every actor and writer knows their job that little bit better and the central cast bat witty lines back and forth like they’re on the clock.

English Teacher is a well-made show featuring strong comedic actors who haven’t yet gotten major breakout roles, and its second season proves the first was not a fluke. .... There’s a real sadness in putting a giant bummer asterisk next to one of the few good ones.

English Teacher is still a funny workplace comedy, despite the fact that the Alvarez’ character is becoming more self-righteous as the series goes along.

Though it falters occasionally, English Teacher Season 2 is just as entertaining as the first, with the added benefit of expanding its characters' universe through themes ranging from COVID to waste disposal to just a regular outing between coworkers turned friends.

This show’s batting average is high, connecting far more often than not. And at this point, the comedy has the chemistry, playbook, and legs for more potential seasons (and new kids to teach, issues to tackle, and advice on work-life balance to ignore).

Too much of the time is about teachers acting silly. Nevertheless, there continues to be a subversive thrust to “English Teacher,” as it undermines several conventions of the ostensible sitcom.
