Though “Digman!” has a way to go before receiving adult animated comedy prestige, its first four episodes show a lot of promise for this endeavor from some of the funniest people creating TV history today.

Digman misses the mark in essentially every department. Its jokes fall flat, its premise can’t hold up an entire series, and the word “arky” is overused to a maddening degree. Samberg can only entertain with his Nic Cage schtick for 15 minutes at most, and there’s little other reason to tune in.

Okay. This new series is obviously a step in the right direction. A fun entertaining adult cartoon about an explorer voiced by the same guy that played as Jake Peralta from Brooklyn Nine-Nine is a win for me!

Still remember **** in a box and still think this is a piece of comedy spoof history? Well, then your favorite guy who is partly responsible for that piece now finally made an animated cartoon series targeted towards manchildren, called Digman! Therein, a pot-bellied and inept Indiana Jones-inspired archeologist named Rip Digman bumbles and fumbles his way through a kind of uninspired series that feels as if the writers were receiving the comsic ray of enlightenment for their spoof-worthy and gritty original through a milk glass window while wearing shades. Why does it feel flat? Well, 9 out of 10 jokes feel forced, characters and situations have this "engineered" feel to them and the dialogs feel like the creator's kids took a swing at writing witty two-liners and snickered all the way to making their dads put them in the final piece. The only saving grace of the whole thing might be that the grand plot has something in store despite lame low-flying jokes and the occasional elightened moment. Although I have a feeling the payoff will be as unsatisfying as that Christmas gift mentioned initially when the ultimate unraveling happens. Not sure if the name Andy Samberg is enough for most, but for me the proof is in the pudding, and this one's a bit stale.
