Dates

Dates isn't the kind of comedy that's supposed to elicit belly laughs, yet it entrances with its sense of dramatic irony.

It’s as candid and absorbing as reality TV isn’t.

There’s little action in Dates. It’s about language, verbal and nonverbal. When the words are this good, that’s enough.

It’s not a game-changer or first-rate through and through. But it is an interesting and very nicely acted look at online daters meeting for the first time.

Dates is a tad precious--a little too smart for its own good.

The six-episode season promises to delve further into these characters’ lives, which may give them the room they need to evolve past their two-dimensional constraints, but it will be an uphill battle after such an uninspired start.
