Another brilliant season from a brilliant show. Deserves a 10 rating for episode Once More With Feeling alone. Somewhat darker than the other seasons it remains consistent.

Despite all the monsters and death Buffy generally kept things fairly light but that very much changed with season six. The season starts with the gang trying to come to terms with and possibly resurrect Buffy, who of course sacrificed herself at the end of season five, before dealing with subjects like an attempted ****, the murder of a much loved character, child welfare looking to take away Dawn and a bride being left at the altar. To be fair most of it was handled pretty well, and it made for an interesting watch, but I did often find myself wishing for the old Buffy and some sort of rest bite from all the misery. I’ll just add a special mention for the musical episode “Once More with Feeling” which is just a superb 45 minutes of television. Musical episodes can often fall flat but not only was the episode entertaining in its own right (the songs are great) it also played a significant part in developing the seasons story arc.

A much darker season due to it dealing with the aftermath of the previous one. There are very few light hearted episodes, the characters go through hell and the comic relief that there is is provided by the villains the Trio, which divides opinion a bit. Overall, I thought that this was a strong season but it took a while to really get going. There is no real obvious arc until the last five episodes or so. However, those last few episodes are worth the wait. ''Once More, with Feeling'', the famous musical episode and ''Normal Again'', where a demon tries to convince Buffy that she has imagined her life in Sunnydale also stand out.

The worst season of Buffy but there is a problem. There are no technical errors or serious deviations from previous seasons or the Buffy formula. I would even say this season does the same as the better seasons. It has much character development, interactions, humour and good stories. The only thing I will say is outright abysmal are the big bad guys. Here you have a bunch of nerds and I must even admit that they deliver their roles / characters pretty good. But there is no menace or impact compared to the mayor villains from the last seasons. Many say that the daily life itself is the villain in season 6. What angered many are the decisions in this season. What happened to Anja and Xander made me angry and is unbelievable. This is nothing what they did at the end with Tara and Willow. Many considered never watching Buffy again (Even I considered it, luckily the next episode was one week later) and there was a huge backlash. I must again admit that this gave us an intense final. All other characters got hit hard by life. I don't enjoyed the suffering of Buffy, Dawn and the others from such mundane everyday things. Again Spike has the best character development and his arc ends with a game-changer. Of cause there is the musical episode “Once more with Feeling”. This is one of the best and funniest episodes in the whole series. Overall this is a real good season but I hate what they did here with the characters (Except Spike) and this will drop the rating by far. Think of it as torture of characters you grown up or you cared for years. Of cause there are some good episodes: Once more with Feeling as described above. The final three episodes Villains, Two to go and Grave are intense and really good but the cause of it angered me. I will say that I forget this season exist as many fans except for the musical episode.

The sixth season of Buffy takes on a darker tone than before. While I appreciated many elements of this season, such as the episodes "Once More With Feeling" and "Tabula Rasa," I thought it didn't reach the same heights as the previous season. The Trio didn't fit with any of it, and I felt like they could've gone in a much different, much better direction. However, I enjoyed the emotional weight in the season. The end of the episode "Seeing Red" almost broke me; the tragedy that ensues for my favourite couple still nags at me. Overall, though not my favourite, Season Six is still a great season.
