This is a pretty decent film but its certainly got some predictable aspects to it, even though it is based on a true story, it all but pains me to say that it still seems somewhat predictably cliched and thats sad given what happens. I feel like there have been a lot of similar films on the same themes/subjects and I wouldn't say this film is especially memorable as such, however the acting is decent enough and I certainly found myself feeling sorry for the titular characters mother, worried about what her son may have got involved in. Its a gritty, urban tale featuring latin Americans and its not been made in a completely slap dash way, as I felt the acting was quite solid but on the other hand, it didn't really jump out at me as a particularly brilliant film and I doubt I'll remember a great deal about it long afterwards. Its certainly a sobering watch and I suppose it could be good if its shown to influential young teens (although it is rated, certainly in the UK, a 15 film, so mid teens I suppose), to try and help persuade them not to get friendly with the wrong kind of people. Its cliched and somewhat predictable but its not a completely bad film, so I'm giving it a 3 star rating overall. If the story sounds of interest, then its probably worth a watch.
