One of the truly great animated films this year, one that now places Imbert alongside fellow countrymen Jérémy Clapin (I Lost My Body) and Rémi Chayé (Calamity) as part of a new generation of French animation talent that is delivering high quality animated projects in both story and style.

The Summit of the Gods’ complex storytelling and convincingly lovely vistas make its philosophical case well: Whether you’re risking it all to get to a peak, to get to the bottom of a mystery, or to create a painstaking piece of animation, you’re lucky enough to have something you love.

Amazing artwork and animation, solid story. Very good movie, hopefully will lead to more quality stories being told in anime fashion. There is no reason the anime style cannot be widely adopted into all genres in film and tv shows.

If it falters early on, The Summit Of The Gods emerges an astonishing work of animation of both intimacy and incredible scale, stunningly well-crafted and smartly adapted.

The film’s beautifully painted mountains are particularly striking, and the climbing sequences are among its standouts. Live-action has nothing on the way these scenes convey both the majestic scale of the peaks and the technical skill necessary to attempt these summits (as well as the physical toll involved).

It’s here, in these more high-altitude and less high-minded passages that “The Summit of the Gods” reaches the peak of its power, as the lush 2D animation indulges in the kind of ecstatically true vistas that live action would never allow, while Amine Bouhafa’s gorgeous and beguiling score makes every step feel like a spiritual proposition before exploding into an avalanche of synths.

On limited terms — capturing the physicality of mountain climbing within the ethereal medium of animation — The Summit of the Gods is distinctive.

While the film intermittently stuns in revealing Everest’s topographical mystique, its expedition into what makes climbers tick struggles to get off the ground.

The summit of the gods IS one of those movies. First two acts are nearly perfect, third one becomes slower, but the ending is top notch. A must see, wonderfull film.

If you're into alpinism or climbing, then you're in for a treat; if not, you'll enjoy this anime-inspired film about giving in your life to something you love. 'The Summit of the Gods' reminded me a lot of 'I Lost My Body,' and not just because of the animation style — the details are amazing! — but because of the introspective themes. The story follows a Japanese journalist in search of the truth about who reached Everest's summit first. When he encounters an elusive climber who may have a lead, he joins him in his next ascent. Although the film has a lot of inspiring and breathtaking moments, some others are very dark and tense. Still, it makes a really good job at showing why climbers risk their lives with no apparent purpose. The only problem is that the mixing of two timelines makes the plot a little convoluted, but nothing to worry about. Just keep going and you'll be rewarded. Forget about 'Everest,' 'Vertical Limit' or even 'Free Solo,' this is the ultimate mountaineering film.

This French cartoon looks so beautiful that Japanese character designed because of the original manga looks so good and detailed and smooth it fills almost like I'm watching an anime from the 90s from the character The designed it's just so **** the story is told feel very smooth like you're learning about the past through journalism and looking at old archives. It's just such a nice way of telling it and I could really feel the character's emotion and why they were doing the things they were doing in the **** is fun while I was watching this movie with my female friend. She asking why they're doing what they're doing and I keep saying because they are men you know men have to do stuff because they stupid man we can't stop doing it because we are man it was very **** do we do what we do because there's some part of us that can stop if we have to do it if we don't we begin to destroy ourselves and live a lie. I feel this movie is about accepting who you are and doing it even if it's stupid.

There may be nothing special about the animation, but this film was a revelation and a pleasant quality surprise. What could easily have been categorised as a documentary is a surprising dramatic film that reminds us why the genre should not be associated for the most part only with family or children's films. If you have Netflix and haven't seen it, I highly recommend it.
