The Big Lebowski is one of the most hilarious movies I have ever seen. Brilliantly written and directed by the Coen brothers and perfectly performed by an amazing cast. The writing is perfect, the story is flawless, with a gripping plot, the lines and dialogues are on point and hilarious. The twists are impactful and surprising, while they are also realistic and they don't mess up the plot. The characters are all very unique, simple and funny in their own way. They are realistic characters, with real problems and mistakes, while they are also weird which makes it a lot more fun. The directing is awesome too with good writing, solid editing and perfect acting. The line deliveries are perfect. There were a few repeated sentences in the movie that kept making me laugh even though I had heard them plenty of times before and that's because of the flawless line deliveries. The Big Lebowski is perfectly written film that is absolutely hilarious, because of the dialogues and the way the actors deliver them.

High on my list of desert island movies, The Big Lebowski is an endlessly rewarding modern classic that yields something fresh with every screening. Jeff Bridges, John Goodman and Steve Buscemi may have been able to carry this thing by themselves, staggered around a rickety old bowling lane with just a wardrobe and a copy of the Coen brothers' script, but when their performances are matched by a blindingly colorful support cast, a plot that swerves around like a drunk driver and the Coens' unmistakable eye for subtlety, the end result is pure magic. I could watch this three times a year and never get tired of it.

The movie is as visually inventive and wildly eccentric as the Coens' earlier movies, but it lacks the emotional maturity and moral clarity of 1996's "Fargo."

Viewers with a taste for bizarre, even surreal, humor will have a ball.

For those who enjoy the non sequiturs common to Cheech & Chong comedies and Raymond Chandler mysteries, The Big Lebowski is a hoot. For those of a more serious warp, the film is a lexicon of postmodernism, a textbook example of recontextualizing earlier styles, what with its '60s casualties driving '70s cars and enjoying '50s pleasures in the '90s. In other words, this is not a movie for those who demand narrative thrust and coherence, although even they will be startled by the contrast between Bridges' teddy-bear affability and Goodman's corrosive hostility. They've never been farther into outer space than in The Big Lebowski. Fans (myself included) may cackle at absurd situations and in-jokes. But director Joel and producer Ethan, who write together, have never made so much clamorous ado about nothing. [6 March 1998, p.7E]

If it's all supposed to be in fun, why does it feel so much like an insult?

One of my all time favorite movies. The plot meanders but the dialogue between characters very well done and I grew to love them over the course of the movie.

I am so confused as to how I feel about “The Big Lebowski”; it’s like the whole movie is a prank on the audience. Was the whole point that there is no point? It is so expertly made, and it really does a great job of making each scene entertaining. But the story just feels so unresolved, like I was waiting for a payoff that never happened. It is totally worth watching, and it is possible that repeat viewings might make me like it more. I give it a C, if you've already seen the best, but you insist on watching a movie, try this one out.

Such an empty boring film, some parts are fun (which brings up my review a little) but you can’t excuse the entire film because some scenes have good writing. Non of the characters develop through the film at all they are the same characters you saw at the start. The plot doesn’t develop or change past the 30 minute mark. The main character goes through the entire film not affecting the plot at all he is just there for the ride and there is no major payoff too.

I must have missed something, or maybe this is America's sense of humor, I do not know. What I do know is that I didn't find it funny, amusing at times but never enough to be worthwhile. An unfunny comedy is a bad movie. Maybe I couldn't assimilate with the protagonists. I thought it would be good according to the reviews. What a boring experience. If feel like this would only make a child laugh, is it intended for children? Or am I offending some of you? Either way it spoiled my evening.

I love the Coens' films but this is the one I've enjoyed the least. I found it uninspired, lazy and monotonous. Almost like they lost focus after the success of Fargo. Massively overrated in my opinion.
