This was the true starting point of the 'Romanian New Wave' that later became an international art house sensation. It's difficult to put this small, but potent film into a category, but it's funny like a good comedy, thrilling like a suspense film and moving like a drama, but without any of the cheesiness of typical genre filmmaking, because it looks and feels as real as a documentary. The dry humor is similar to Jarmusch's work, but without his artsy style. The conflicts are local and universal at the same time. Fresh direction, acting, screenplay. A small masterpiece.
