An eccentric loner detective, Harley Stone (Rutger Hauer),teams up with his new straight-laced partner, **** Durkin, to take down a vicious heart-ripping predatory monster. In a flooded future London, Detective Stone hunts a serial killer who murdered his partner, and has haunted him ever since. He soon discovers what he is hunting might not be human. Director Tony Mayham keeps the enjoyably absurd story zipping along at a snappy pace, generates a good deal of tension, stages the exciting action with flair, and delivers a satisfying serving of bloody splatter along with some tasty gratuitous female nudity. Moreover, this movie further benefits not only from a sharp and wickedly amusing sense of self-mocking humor, but also a spot-on giddy'n'pulpy sensibility that cuts right to the chase with a refreshing dearth of pretense. Hauer and Duncan make for a delightful mismatched duo; they receive sturdy support from Kim Cattrall as the spunky Michelle McLaine. A fun flick.
