Fletcher is the real star of this show, a director whose enthusiasm for musical storytelling shines through every frame, hitting all the emotional high notes.

Egerton’s whole-body commitment captures not just Elton’s outrageous physicality — in costume designer Julian Day’s hands, he’s essentially a one-man Mardi Gras — but his enduring sadness and insecurity (and the self-sabotaging behavior it was too often funneled through) without tipping into showbiz-tragedy cliché. He’s the starry-eyed cosmonaut the part demands, but merely, endearingly mortal too.

Overall, however, Rocketman works because it isn’t constrained by the beats of a traditional bio-pic. Although the movie will be rightfully and enthusiastically embraced by the singer’s fans, it has something to offer those with no more than a casual recognition and appreciation of the man’s music.

One of the most underrated movies of all time, "Rocketman" is one of the best musicals of the decade. "Rocketman" bring the best Elton John songs together, in a touching and beautiful way, Taron Egerton's acting deserved an oscar (or at least a nomination), and he did a great job singing Elton's songs, bringing them to the next level.
The art direction is amazing. They recreated the rockstar's figurines and clothing with mastery, filling the screen with vibrant, beautiful colors. The movie is also not afraid to show Elton's sexual life, and it does it in a subtle and artistic way. "Rocketman" deserved way more than he got. He only had one Oscar nomination, for best Original Song, and it won, but the picture deserves a lot.

Rocketman tells us the story of British Music Composer Elton John and his rough family relationship. Although a great film, there are still many flaws in Rocketman concerning events that didn't actually happen. In a sense, the film was inspired mainly by Bohemian Rhapsody, which was released in 2018, a year earlier. Overall, Rocketman is a film that requires improvement.

The movie starts out like a Disney musical, and I really don't like musicals, though I do love music. I was hoping for something more like A Star is Born or even Bohemian Rhapsody. Instead I was served an up and down bio-musical that just never really caught my attention. I had hoped for more.

As a fan of Elton John, I'm enormously disappointed by Rocketman. And it has nothing to do with Edgerton. He's the best part of the film - and Jamie Bell is really good, too. The film is just terribly boring. And if you're coming for the songs, you won't hear 'em! Just bits and pieces of "versions" of the songs you know and love, but nothing that grabs you by the throat like his songs do. And yes, it devolves into yet another addiction story that leaves us behind. The best and only "real" moment in the film is when he goes back to visit his father (and half-brothers) to give him a gift and is essentially rebuffed. That had real emotion and pain to it. The rest of the film is all gauze and wanna-be musical nonsense. If only this film had one tenth the feel and heart of the "Tiny Dancer" scene in Almost Famous, they would have had a passablly good movie here. But no. I'm shocked to be writing this. And I'm guessing that the professional critics giving it the the 50 range are just scared to call a spade a spade and throw down some red scores. Ugh. SO disappointed.
