Hunt, who served as editor on the first three Connery films, gives Lazenby’s fist fights a whipcrack intensity and the ski-jumping, stock car-racing, bobsled-sliding finale is one of the series’ best.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is the only Bond film that gets beyond the dirty boy’s-book spirit of the series to a core of real emotion. It also has what are probably the best action sequences of any 007 adventure.

Brilliant film, the great days of James Bond; full of action, great storylines with beautiful women and a lot of humour.
If only the new ones were as good as the old ones!

Based on one of the best of Ian Fleming's Bond novels, On Her Majesty's Secret Service benefited from an extremely well-written script that finally revealed a bit more of Bond's character. Lazenby, however, had no previous acting experience, and his lackadaisical performance limits the whole production, yet it still manages to remain one of the more entertaining Bond films.

A rather uneven Bond, one with a great story but a few too many problems, belonging somewhere in the middle section of the series' canon.

This Bond thriller-the sixth, and set mainly in Switzerland-introduces a new Bond, George Lazenby, who's quite a dull fellow, and the script, by Richard Maibaum, isn't much, either, but the movie is exciting, anyway.

George Lazenby has so much reserve as James Bond that he makes Sean Connery seem almost frenetic by comparison. Director Peter Hunt manages to inject some life into this 1969 exercise with a wonderful ski chase, but otherwise the film is a bore.

The Bond films were bad enough even with the partially ironic performances of Connery. Here, featuring the stunning nonentity Lazenby, there are no redeeming features.

On Her Majesty’s Secret Service is a frustrating mix of genuine progress and deeply ingrained franchise problems. The film continues the tired Bond girl formula with predictable twists and no real chemistry, while the action often lacks impact and resorts to awkwardly sped-up footage that feels closer to slapstick than suspense. At the same time, the fight choreography shows more elegance than previous entries, and creative choices like the ski chase inject some much-needed freshness, even if messy camera work undercuts their effectiveness. George Lazenby brings unexpected energy and presence to the role, highlighting how stagnant the series had become under Connery and making his brief tenure feel like a missed opportunity. Unfortunately, the film is still weighed down by dated and uncomfortable portrayals of women, preventing it from fully capitalizing on its strengths and keeping it from becoming the reinvention it hints at being.

I had always heard this film was weak, that George Lazenby lacked charisma and that it was little more than a mistake in the saga. But watching it in full, the impression changes: it is far from the disaster people claim, and actually has a special value that perhaps wasn’t appreciated back in **** first surprise is how much it connects with the Daniel Craig era. Beyond the action —which here is more physical and less dependent on gadgets— there’s the portrayal of a vulnerable Bond, marked by tragic loss. That human angle, so unusual at the time, is precisely what makes the film more appreciated today.Lazenby is not Connery, of course, but he’s not as bad as his reputation suggests. He lacks polish, but he holds his own in the action scenes and shares genuine chemistry with Diana Rigg, who truly elevates the film. Her Tracy is a strong character, and their relationship gives the story an emotional weight rarely seen in the **** movie has memorable sequences: ski chases, a charismatic (if over-the-top) Blofeld played by Telly Savalas, and an ending that remains one of the most shocking in the series. It may have seemed odd or out of place back then, but with time it has gained recognition and is now seen as a key step in Bond’s ****’s not perfect —some excesses and awkward moments remain— but it’s far more valuable than it was once thought to be. Today, it can be appreciated as a bridge between the classic and the modern Bond, one that dared to show that even 007 could lose.

It's not Lazenby is a bad bond, It's just a terrible edited and written movie that does it in for me. Action scenes are ruined with constant jump cuts, The plot isn't even the least bit interesting and the pacing is crippling slow. It's one of a few Bond films that could use proper editing to trim down a few needlessly long scenes to quicken the run-time and improve the pacing. That may not fix much but it would certainly help.
