A romantic drama that also offers smart commentary on class and economic differences.
By David Wiegand
FULL REVIEW 70
As a love story, it could scarcely be more tempestuous and as an exposé of class differences and sexual hypocrisy it could hardly be more scathing -- or, more important, entertaining.

There is also a fair amount of boy-on-boy sex, which would be the main reason for seeing No Regret, no matter what your sexual orientation might be.

A tiny, specific film admirable in its focus, competent digital cinematography, and lack of sentimentality. Too bad it turns into Extreme Korean Romance.

It is perverse that a movie concerned with objectification would reduce its hero to an object.

Absolutely stunning. Although often summarized as a love story, I felt that the plot intended to tell the story of Sumin as a person: both in his desire to achieve socioeconomic stability despite his inherent social status and situation, as well as in his struggle to achieve emotional stability in response to family pressures affecting his relationship. At times the plot development can seem abrupt, although the film makes up for this in its artistry and the way it draws the audience to empathize with Sumin through impressive visuals. I had goosebumps after the movie concluded. Overall a great experience, I would definitely recommend watching this.

The stagnant machinery of a desperate romance: A 3.0-star "vivid" but suffocating drift through urban loneliness.2009(3.0)I watched "No Regret" in 2009, and it remains a functional 3.0-star record in my archive—a "vivid" but ultimately "stagnant" exploration of class-clash longing and "raw" human distrust. This experience **** the fourth wall of the traditional romance genre by infusing the "stagnant" tropes of melodrama with a rebellious and rhythmic energy that felt 100% "raw" and bruising at the time. While the production attempted a "sensational" and high-tension portrayal of the bond between Su-min and Jae-min, the narrative rhythm often felt "stagnant" and mechanical, dragging through a "pathetic" cycle of obsession that lacked the "chewy" intellectual resolution found in my 5.0-star pillars. Seeing the "vivid" but "pathetic" desperation of the characters provided a rhythmic sense of tragedy, but the emotional payoff felt too "stagnant" and exhausting, leaving me in a state of absolute "hororong" as the credits rolled on their "raw" and wounded reality. The 95% preservation of my memory is dominated by the rhythmic, "raw" coldness of the city streets and the "vivid" but "pathetic" cruelty of their social divide, creating a permanent, "stagnant" scar of melancholy on my soul. Unlike the "vivid" soul of "Man of Steel" or the "raw" tension of "The Machinist," this theatrical encounter possessed a rhythm that felt too "stagnant" to reach the "sensational" heights of my most cherished psychological archives. It stands in my 2011 record as a "vivid" exercise in **** cinema—a 3.0-star artifact of "raw" emotion that remained too "stagnant" to escape the "pathetic" weight of its own tragedy.
