A marvel of energy, wit, and visual imagination, The Man With a Movie Camera remains one of the most exhilarating movies ever made. [06 Feb 2015, p.G5]

It's a startlingly avant-garde cross-examination of modern life, as well as a lesson in the power of filmmaking and an autopsy of its methods.

Wow this was really something. I watched iton youtube, so maybe i found a different version. I found the music quite jarring in a few spots. Not bad per say but it kindof distracted me. I understand they made a soundtrack for it back in 2000s? Would have been nice to hear music that people then would have listened to in their everyday lives perhaps? But totally worth a watch for anyone that enjoys history or film making.

Vertov’s experimental essay proclaims its ‘complete separation from the language of theatre and literature’ in the opening titles. What follows is cinema in its purest form: movement, sensation, action and visual trickery.

No other film – not even by Georges Méliès at his most fantastic – trumpets early cinema's status as a magical science and scientific magic, quite so loudly or melodically.

The film would be exciting to watch even completely silent, both because it’s a valuable record of Soviet city life at the end of the 1920s, and because it explodes with visual ideas.

It’s a beautiful piece of celluloid that is worthy of its army of plaudits.

It is a disjointed array of scenes in which the producer, Dziga Vertoff, does not take into consideration the fact that the human eye fixes for a certain space of time that which holds the attention.
