Warped keyhole-size images stack atop one another in a Frankenstein-ian collage that evokes the films of Terrence Malick, David Lynch, Stan Brakhage, and Bruce Conner. Seeing "the years [slip] out of [Bill's] head" in this 71-minute compendium is nothing short of revelatory.

Considering that he’s a stick figure, Bill, the main character in It’s Such a Beautiful Day, sure does have a complex internal life. And this animated film by Don Hertzfeldt does an amazing job of making you feel it, in all its sadness, terror and transcendence.

It is an absolutely fantastic movie. It just happens to be implemented using stick figure animation. It touches on the universal issues of the human condition. It is as if Don Hertzfeldt is just a conduit for the universe observing itself.

A highly original and utterly enthralling film that touches on staggeringly expansive themes - more typically expected in the work of master auteur and persistent award-winner Terrence Malick, than from animations.

Had James Thurber worked in animation, the waggish result might look and sound a bit like It’s Such a Beautiful Day, indie cartoonist Don Hertzfeldt’s alternately poignant and absurdist triptych.

An existential flipbook and a heartbreaking black joke: stickmen have never looked so alive.

Despite all this macabre torment, It's Such a Beautiful Day involves a lot of sweet, plucky humor that represents a discreet softening of the angry sarcasm for which Hertzfeldt has become known.

This movie... It really gets how to surprise anyone due to it's visual simplicity. It such a big, deep, unique movie; so captivating how a simple (at first) character called Bill could get anyone on guard on how relatable yet profound he is, the narrative is a constant mind-blowing experience that drives you further into the movie and makes you feel so many things, even cry. It can be even a life-changing experience for some people.

Quirky, imaginative, and unforgettable. This is an odd, experimental film that will pull on your heartstrings. It's stunningly beautiful in its simplicity. Its an unexpected font of ponderous wisdom that will stick with you for years to come.

Definitely an acquired taste, but easily one of the most poignant and masterfully done movies I've ever seen. 10/10 work of art

Nihilism + crappy animation + discordant noises + choppy narration. Closest to "demonic" of what I've yet seen, and I've seen a lot.
