A film that is likely to evoke highly ambivalent reactions from the audience and requires a certain level of engagement. In unflinching and graphic images, and with equally powerful acting, Marina de Van depicts the progression of an illness that is completely alien and incomprehensible to most people. The very fact that it exists and is portrayed in this way in a film is likely to evoke horror in itself. However, the film lacks a suspenseful narrative arc, initially even feeling somewhat contrived, and focuses exclusively on the afflicted character. There is no mention of the trigger, nor of any attempts (by anyone) to seek professional help. Therefore, it seems likely that Marina de Van's film was solely concerned with depicting gory shock elements.
