Fanning is nearly perfect as Ginger navigates choppier waters than most teens have to. There is not a false note in her performance; no matter how melodramatic things become, everything about Ginger remains genuine.

Romanticizing youth a bit much. Peerless portrayal of adolescent. Enchanting cinematography matched by the most beautiful work by Elle Fanning (Oh!.. I am so a fan) and Alice Englert. and in one word, lets just say it "beguiling"

This film could have easily been overly sentimental or melodramatic, but it is neither. It is unflinching in its ability to show the realness of hurt which is experienced by each character in the film, to one degree or another. The cast list is stuffed with great actors, but Elle Fanning (Super 8, Somewhere) stands out and continues to show herself to be very talented (more so than her older sister even).

The movie can be affecting at times, and might’ve been even more so if Potter hadn’t made its theme so explicit, via heavy “this is the point” speeches delivered during what’s otherwise a powerful climax.

"Ginger & Rosa" is a beautifully constructed period film, with wonderful acting from the leading girls (Fanning & Englert). It completely surpassed my expectations. However set in very specific thematic conditions (1960's, liberal values vs. tradition, nuclear crisis), this definitely is a character driven film. The plot is kept tight and simple as the characters further develop into their worlds, and perhaps this could prove to be the weakest point for some viewers. For me, its subtle but mature performances and sensitive approach to the girls' coming of age was completely worth watching. The Brit accents by the cast were done fine. ---Solid script and directing as well.

Elle Fanning is remarkable here -- her delicacy and quiet depth slipping through every scene. Elsewhere, the film is technically solid but unremarkable, lacking narrative profundity and subtlety.

The titular teens live in 1962 England and do what girls do: try on clothes, try smoking, try kissing. Their inseparable friendship is inevitably tested when one falls in love and the other gets obsessed with the atomic threat. Everything happens with a laconic pace and dry demeanor (music is minimal). The cast is full of strong actors, but it's Elle Fanning as Ginger who is exquisitely beautiful and compelling in every frame. Other than that, the dull pacing and minor drama is hard to handle.
