San Francisco Chronicle
A wonderful movie, sincere and inspired, with four terrific performances and a story that doesn't let up. The picture has the gentle, nourishing quality of a fairy tale that you want to believe, and the unsoftened impact of gut-level entertainment. [13 July 1990, Daily Datebook, p.E1]

There are still some astonishingly tender moments, including looks exchanged between Swayze and Moore that seem magically divorced from this summer of exploding jets, severed limbs and homicidal children. [13 July 1990, Friday, p.D]

The most beautiful love story in cinema? Without exaggeration, this is one of the most beautiful films I have ever seen. Not only because of what is told, but because of how it is told. There is a very clear narrative and emotional precision throughout. Produced, written, and directed with a level of accuracy and excellence that is almost intimidating. Jerry Zucker demonstrates supreme control over tone and rhythm. He knows exactly what he wants to say and how he wants me to feel as a viewer. He knows when to cut and when to let a scene breathe, all with a sense of vertiginous natural flow. The scenes that move toward sex stop at exactly the right point, reminding you that this is a film about love, not about making love. The transitions deserve a specific mention. They are genuine narrative magic tricks: when I think one thing is happening, it suddenly becomes something entirely different, flipping the whole scene on its head and leaving me with my hands over my face. Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore deliver exquisite, deeply human performances. No excess, no overacting. Everything flows naturally. Their chemistry is undeniable—a connection that feels authentic and reaches beyond the screen. A truly endearing relationship. The visual effects are noticeable and clearly dated, but they are better integrated than I expected. They aim to serve the story rather than overwhelm it with spectacle. The music becomes the film’s true leitmotif. Every time I hear 'Unchained Melody', I will think of this film. Exquisite music, emotionally intelligent, accompanying the scenes without ever overpowering them. What truly makes this film special is its message: emotional permanence, grief, acceptance of reality, and the idea that love does not strictly end with death. A direct challenge to the notion of “till death do us part.” Love is presented as an omnipresent force that goes beyond limits and certainties. Love remains, even when the person is no longer there. A reflection on learning to let go, on how a genuine bond does not disappear, but transforms. Without a doubt, a perfect choice to watch as a couple. A feeling that is difficult to explain, but easy to feel. Possibly the finest film of its genre.

Three losers of late, the actors succeed quite nicely in unifying the movie's multiple personalities, its ricocheting screenplay.

Goldberg has her best role in a while, especially when she twitches and grunts her way into phony trances. Poor Demi, though, cries enough tears to drench a small drought-stricken state. [13 July 1990, Life, p.4D]

It's formula-packed business as usual. In fact, it's double-packed, triple-packed, more.

The ghost is played by Patrick Swayze, who can't handle the part; his bereaved girlfriend, Demi Moore, is much better. [13 Aug 1990, p.30]

A bad movie that a lot of people will like... Though director Jerry Zucker wants his necrophiliac romance to be sensitive, he pumps up its feelings fortissimo so the dimmest viewer will get the point. [16 July 1990, p.86]

Here's a review of the movie "Mainstream":"Mainstream" is a scathing critique of social media culture, expertly woven into a darkly comedic narrative. Andrew Garfield shines as Link, a charismatic but troubled influencer, while Maya Hawke delivers a nuanced performance as Frankie, his creative partner. Director Gia Coppola masterfully skewers the superficiality of online fame, raising essential questions about authenticity and identity. With its biting satire and thought-provoking themes, "Mainstream" is a must-see for anyone fascinated by the intersection of technology and humanity. Rating: 4.5/5 stars.

Somehow manages to work as a bizarre romantic film. From what I have heard over the years I expected so many more pottery scenes.

This ultra-romantic film addresses two main themes: the power of love and the afterlife. The title may deceive, make us think that is another horror film about hauntings. Well ... it's about ghosts but does not scare anyone. The script is based on the sudden death of Sam and in his attempts to contact his wife, now widow, and warn her about a deadly danger lurking around her. Simple but effective, the script works well, plays with a universal belief, shared by millions of people, places deep questions and earned for its author, Bruce Joel Rubin, an Oscar for Best Original Screenplay. The main roles are played by Patrick Swayze and Demi Moore, two experienced actors who don't have disappointed the public, providing us with very good performances. They have created a good visual chemistry, which helps to enhance the romantic mood of the film. Compelling is the performance of Whoopi Goldberg, one of the most striking of her career. She gave life to a funny medium that starts to be a fraud. The film also features several innovative special effects, for the time, and look good on the screen.

you'll go to heaven.. Ghost An interesting idea to project a concept that is clearly dark into a suave romance and good old drama with great music and moments which reminds you of the old romantic novels that plays its major part on the metaphorical emotions.
