The drunk provides the best one-line review for this mess, one a pretty talented cast should have taken to heart before taking Netflix’s money. “Not all ideas are good ones.”

A gem of a nugget of a movie. Caught it on Netflix over the weekend and it kept me glued and interested to the TV the entire time. Excellent character development and fantastic, twist plot with tragic hero in the end. Go watch it.

This was a great movie. People are just going to hate it because of Tim Allen's political point of view. this is one of his best performances. Great holiday movie for the adults.

Not your average holiday film. Rather than spreading Christmas cheer when he pulls into town looking for the father he never met, Eric Roth (Luke Grimes) inadvertently causes all hell to break loose when a local psychotic cop decides to make him the target of his drunken rage. Bullets fly and a lot of alcohol is consumed. It's certainly a lot darker than your average Christmas movie. Yet, it's not entirely devoid of warmth, humanity, and even a few seasonal clichés. It's even quite humorous. There's a single mother with a child who never speaks that ultimately ends up falling for the young drifter, to help fill in the checklist for what's almost mandatory for the more traditional variety of these movies. It's pretty well made despite a low budget and Hallmark quality production. The really surprising part is just how violent it is. The performances in this movie are surprisingly good. A talented cast of familiar names like Tim Allen, Vincent D'Onofrio, and a few others make things a little more enjoyable than they otherwise would have been. It's the situation itself that makes things fun though. Such an odd, but ultimately worthwhile choice to make for an original feeling Christmas flick. 7.5/10

It starts and ends good but it gets slow for awhile and most of the movie takes place in the small liquor mart. The ending is great and its a nice mix of genres.

This was anything but a feel-good Christmas movie as the producers would have you believe. The characters are mostly unlikable jerks who go out of their way to cause trouble for the new outsider in town. Also, you can see the "twist" coming a mile away. A forced romantic relationship is very obvious from the beginning as well. Be prepared to be inundated with shameless product placement throughout most of the movie especially for alcoholic beverages. I wanted to see this film because of Kurtwood Smith (Red in That 70s Show) and Tim Allen but both actors had little to do or say. Disappointing movie in almost every regard.

A chaotic, irritating mess of guns and alcohol that fails as a black comedy.241224 (0.5)It is beyond pathetic to watch these fools constantly drinking and firing guns. Unlike well-crafted black comedies such as *A Lucky Day*, this film is purely irritating. The plot is a mess: Eric, a man from Missouri, arrives in El Camino looking for his estranged father, Michael Lawrence Ross, only to be caught in a web of incompetence. Officer Carl Hooker—a lazy, alcoholic, and corrupt cop—fabricates a drug charge against Eric and later escalates a simple encounter at Vicente’s liquor store into a full-blown "hostage crisis" to cover his own blunders. The absurdity peaks when Larry, who is actually Eric’s father and a disgraced Vietnam vet, decides to take the fall. The film tries to force a "moving" sacrifice, but it feels unearned and disgusting because the entire tragedy was fueled by Larry's own recklessness and the sheriff's department's idiocy. From the pregnant reporter Beth Flowers exploiting the situation for a scoop to Chief Fuller ignoring safety protocols, every character is exhausting. In the end, the corrupt cops get promoted or paid off, leaving the audience with no meaningful message, no real humor, and nothing but a sense of revulsion. It is a third-rate film that mistakes chaotic stupidity for wit.

OMG, what a POS. I Can't believe anyone actually ,liked this film, and I can't believe how many otherwise talented actors are in it. A Netflix review said it was like if Hallmark or Lifetime decided to make a violent rated-R movie. That's the tone of it, for sure. Terrible script, the story itself is plotless, Vincent D'onofrio's character is so unwatchable and unbelievable, and this flick simply can't decide what it wants to be. Mostly, it forces a bunch of spoon-fed sentiment, with autistic children and a stupid family story. The only reason I'm giving this a 1, and not a flat zero, is because of Luke Grimes, Dax Sheperd, and surprisingly, Tim Allen. The script is so awful, and these guys give wha absolute little they have, their total all. The editing and the pacing are atrocious.I mean, that was the best plot device they could think of to get these people trapped in a liquor store? Really? Plus, I've had Tim Allen half-singing Joy to the World stuck in my head twice now. I think I have grounds to sue.
