Digger

In this witty, windblown modern fable, man, nature and machine get to take turns being the enemy and the savior.

Digger’s loyalties always reside with Nikitas, his quest to keep his home and his devotion to the woodlands; yet Grigorakis shows an environment- and economic-fuelled tragedy, too.

It’s a shame that, as it ramps up, this generational tension isn’t dramatised with the sharpness it might have been.

Its terse David and Goliath conflict doesn’t yield satisfyingly punchy results.

Georgis Grigorakis’s film may not revolutionize the western genre by transposing it to an unlikely setting, but it doesn’t dilute it either.
