Darkness Visible is a uniquely directed thriller with a captivating action-filled plot. The film’s story line is about a young man named Ronnie who lives in London with his mother Suleka. Ronnie’s family descent resides in India but because of his mother, he has never had the chance to meet any of them. However, on Ronnie’s 28th birthday, mysterious and strange occurrences begin to happen to him, turning his normal life upside down. His mother is randomly hospitalized in India and Ronnie must travel there to see what is going on. Once arriving in India, even more bizarre situations start to happen which all seem to derive from supernatural demonic spirits. Ronnie tries to figure out what is going on before he succumbs to the treacherous spirits himself. Darkness Visible is an action-packed thriller with a seemingly realistic plot line that I thoroughly enjoyed.

I can’t get over how intense this film was! To me, the atmosphere is everything, and DARKNESS VISIBLE had a super creepy setting. Most of the film took place in East India, which was not only spooky but also felt pretty unique. Another aspect of horror movies that are really important to me is the special effects, so I loved how incredible the effects were, and how they allowed the goriness of the film to appear extremely realistic. Most of the movie I couldn’t turn away from the screen, despite wanting to cover my eyes! If you appreciate a graphic horror, this one is a must see!

When you sign up for a horror movie, you know something bad is going to happen. There’s an air of impending doom. But in Darkness Visible, you’re never able to see what’s coming. The writers Neil Biswas and Ben Hervey plant in you a bit of hope, and they really play with that, leading you to believe that maybe the movie will actually end on a lighter note. They craft this masterfully so the ending hits you hard, but you can see it. It’s a great way to be led along and enjoy the ride because Biswas and Hervey create it so seamlessly.

Imagine living your whole life not knowing your true identity, or the history of your family, and then traveling thousands of miles away from home to meet family for the first time only to unfold secrets that will ultimately destroy your whole family line. That’s exactly what happens to Ronnie, main character played by Jaz Deol, when he travels to India, to initially be with his mother after an accident, but what leads him to unfold the dark and twisted secrets of her past life in witchcraft and spiritual matters. This movie threw me through many loops and turns, but giving me an ending that shook me to the core, and was unexpected to say the least. Highly recommend anyone looking for a horror mixed thriller to watch this movie.

If you are into supernatural thrillers I highly recommend you watch “Darkness Visible.” I’ve watched a decent amount of movies of this genre, but this movie stands out to me the most. The basic story of the film follows Ronnie, who travels to India to see his dying mother. Once there, a lot of murders start to make their way through the city and no one knows why. It’s very mysterious. At times, there are scenes that will make you hold your breath, and get really invested into what’s going to happen next. If you’ve been itching for an above average movie to see, I suggest you go watch “Darkness Visible.”

The foreign, exotic myths and location of India in Darkness Visible really captivated my attention. Unfamiliar with the culture, this film sparked an interest for me, and grasped my attention throughout its entire duration. Biswas (the director) did an incredible job of bringing an Indian myth to light, while still incorporating an eerie, creepy feel, and gripping the viewers’ concentration. I highly suggest you see this film, as it had me asking questions until the very end.

Although classified as a horror/thriller film, Darkness Visible is not filled with the transparent and commonplace scare tactics typically seen in these movies. Throughout the film, Director Neil Biswas does an incredible job of instilling a constant sense of impending doom and unease on audience members that stays with them long after the film has ended. The plot takes viewers on a winding trail of ritualistic murders and demonic spirits throughout the city of Kolkata, India, leading up to a graphic and unsettling ending guaranteed to shock even the most seasoned of horror fans. This is a movie that takes an oversaturated genre and infuses it with unique visuals and plot devices to achieve the overarching goal of not just entertaining but creating something original.

The murder mystery aspect of Darkness Visible is paired with supernatural elements in a wildly satisfying way. I love supernatural horror and I thought this movie was really compelling with its unique look on the Indian paranormal. There was a lot of interesting Indian mythology and culture rooted in the film that brought on an immensely fantastic ending that had me shell-shocked. India as a backdrop to the horrific and puzzling string of murders was absolutely captivating. It get especially more interesting when you start to realize that the main character Ronnie personally plays a role in all the mythology that he doesn’t realize or intend. Intense, engrossing, creepy- I definitely recommend this movie to any fans of horror or suspense.

I haven’t been able to stop thinking about this film since I watched it the other day. The film follows Ronnie as he investigates a string horrific murders that begin with his own mother’s death. “Darkness Visible” demands attention and creates a story that dives deep into the human psyche when confronted with the supernatural unknown and unleashes the darkness of the mind. The film creates a suspenseful thrill that has you reeling to understand why the satanic murders are happening and who is causing them. If you are like me, then you will be sitting at the edge of your seat until the very end. I have not been this excited about a supernatural thriller in ages; you need to see what I’m talking about!

Bringing new life and ideas into the horror genre, Darkness Visible brings the world of Indian paranormal beliefs to the big screen. Director Neil Biswas crafted a suspenseful murder mystery horror film that is truly something unique from all other horror films I had seen before. Jaz Deol gives an outstanding performance as Ronnie, a Londoner brought to India after his mother is hospitalized. For something different than the typical scary movie, I definitely suggest giving this a try.

Darkness Visible is an interesting addition to the supernatural horror/thriller genre. Taking place in India, the film has a completely different feel than the supernatural horrors that I’m used to and involves a completely new “bad guy”. I won’t give away too much in this review, but I will say, that Indian witchcraft is as terrifying and unsettling as it sounds. The story follows an artist, Ronnie, who has to travel to India after his mother mysteriously winds up in a hospital there. Once he arrives, the story switches to more of crime thriller as Ronnie is left as the sole investigator in a string of serial murders. Oh yes, and Indian witchcraft gets introduced, and then the film gets very eerie, and then very scary, all while being very entertaining, and then it ends, and then I’m left wanting to write up a little recommendation to go watch it. The characters are well developed, the cinematography is attractive and intriguing, and the storyline is engaging and has been thought out in that it doesn’t rely on idiot characters or jump scares to propel the story forward, which in turn leaves nothing to be desired and much to be appreciated. If you need something fresh to get your blood pumping and your mind racing, Darkness Visible will accomplish that goal and then some. Recommend for all horror movie veterans and newcomers alike!

Absolute silence is a horror film’s new best friend, and Director/Writer Neil Biswas fully (and effectively) takes advantage of it. While recent horror flicks such as A Quiet Place have replaced loud, sudden noises with tension-filled silence, they have done so because the cinematic universe requires silence as a plot device. Biswas, on the other hand, employs this technique as a thematic element to the film that furthers Ronnie’s (Jaz Deol) uneasiness about his foreign environment. While there is validity in both approaches, Biswas does it better because it comes across as a purposeful choice instead of a forced necessity, overall elevating Darkness Visible to a superior horror film.

Darkness Visible is one of the most well written horror films I’ve seen in a while. Combining some of the best aspects of the horror and mystery genres, this movie explores the eerie connection between our protagonist Ronnie’s past and the sudden death of his mother and many others around him. A completely original story that doesn’t rely on jump scares for engagement, rather using suspenseful conflict and ominous tension to keep the audience on edge.

Darkness Visible is a exciting, new fresh take on supernatural thrillers that gives the audience what they came to theatres expecting, and even more from director Neil Biswas vision to balance how we perceive reality. Performances from this cast are engaging in really bringing this story alive on the big screen, and paired with the setting in Kolkata there is an intoxifying foreign bizarreness which had myself enthralled from start to finish.
