Damaged isn’t trying to be a meme, it’s playing things completely straight, and trying to be a serious police procedural in the vein of 90s thrillers such as Se7en or Primal Fear. That sincerity, and the apparent genuine commitment of top-tier performers like Jackson, is what makes this ripely absurd film at least half-worth watching.

Indeed, the film’s main strength is not its overly familiar if convoluted plotting but rather the strong performances all around.

unbelievable how disappointed this movie is, especially it's ending. Even the cast isn't saving the poor entirety of that movie

Unfortunately, Damaged isn't a very successful film. This is due to the fact that the story is very contrived and unbelievable. Even the two renowned actors, Vincent Cassel and Samuel L. Jackson, can't change the rather weak script. In general, the actors fail to breathe any real depth or conviction into their characters. The dialogue is flat, and the acting is mediocre. It almost seems as if all the main actors simply played down the story without really engaging with the characters. If you compare the film to David Fincher's Seven, you can see how worlds apart they are.
