SummaryCold Brook is the story of Ted & Hilde (William Fichtner & Kim Coates), two ordinary guys in a small town who embark on an extraordinary adventure and risk everything for a stranger in need. It's a story about coming home; something everyone, everywhere has an innate desire to do.

It would have been nice if Cold Brook had added up to something more substantial, but at least it's a film about grown-ups who generally try to behave that way, and these days that feels like a rare thing.

Fichtner’s love for upstate New York — and his interest in exploring the dynamic of longtime married couples — makes this movie easy to root for. But he doesn’t have much of a story, or much of a directorial eye. His passion project is admirable but minor.

Cold Brook's obvious good intentions lend it a sweetness that cannot make up for insurmountable problems. The script, co-written by director and star William Fichtner, is under-imagined, with the characters overlooking the most obvious options and an overall framework we might charitably describe as outdated.

There’s no complexity to anyone or anything here. Even the hint of family conflict in the portrayal of our heroes’ children as bratty teens goes nowhere in the director and Cain DeVore’s screenplay, which at times teeters on the edge between simple and simple-minded.

Light-hearted movie for light-hearted people. It's like a children's mystery but with adults. It turns to be a surprisingly good combination. Well written. Great performance by the cast. You need a certain level of maturity to appreciate this film.
