Cantinflas is a nostalgic, occasionally schlocky, look at the Mexican icon. While a substantial number of scenes are heavy-handed, the actor who plays Cantinflas— Óscar Jaenada — is a standout.

The result, I’m afraid, is a big disappointment, a disjointed mess that tries to create a point-counterpoint narrative with these two savvy showmen, which inevitably tips the scales in favoring one of them. The problem is, it’s not the one you think.

Great movie representing the life of a beloved actor. As a Mexican I can say this movie was amazingly done.

A wonderful biopic Directed by Sebastian del Amo, written by Edui Tijerina and starring Oscar Jaenada who is remarkable on his performance. He looks, talks and acts like "Cantinflas". The film is engaging and tells an important story about the making of the 1956 movie "Around the World in 80 days". There's also original music composed by Aleks Syntek. The movie introduces wonderful production values, and of course, a great message. The story provides insights about Mario Moreno whose Cantinflas character emerged as a moral guide and hero in Mexico through his movies. It is clear that most actors prepared well for their roles as a tribute to Cantinflas and to those whose role their performed. The problem with Cantinflas sense of humor known as "Cantinflear" is an improvised comic riffing that does not make sense in Spanish and it can´t be translated, but people laughs anyway by just listening. Mexico's film academy has picked Cantinflas, a biopic about iconic comedian Mario Moreno, as its foreign-language Oscar submission. Cantinflas is a most see movie for all.

This is interesting and fun to watch, but not so much for what it reveals as for what it hints at. Cantinflas just doesn't provide enough for getting a handle on the man, but will have me, at least, doing further reading and watching as it really whets the appetite to know more about this great talent.

Cantinflas una película que elevaba mis expectativas por la publicidad que había alrededor de ella .....Sin embargo la película me agrado mas no fue lo que yo esperaba no esta a la altura para la gran leyenda que es cantiflas y lo que significa para nosotros. En lo personal esperaba que fuera una película biográfica lo cual me hubiera agradado bastante, en ves de que haya sido en forma de flashbacks.. los constantes cambios en el tiempo por momentos son innecesarios y esto hace que se pierda el ritmo de la película. Hay momentos que me hubiera gustado ver mucho mas de Mario Moreno que de Cantinflas, no solo un resumen de su vida y su importante ascenso hacia el éxito si no sus problemas internos mas a fondo y las dificultades que tuvo que pasar puesto que en el film parece que sus logros fueron solo un golpe de suerte. . todo esto terminando como máximo logro el haber obtenido el globo de oro...apesar de eso la dirección es buena al igual que la fotografía,el reparto atinado aunque algunos son innecesarios, ilse salas muy bien es su papel como la señora ivannova y luis gerardo mendes considero que un poco sobre actuado...Mención aparte para Jaenada con una actuación no solo buena si no magistral el verlo en la pantalla es como estar viendo al mismísimo Mario Moreno y aun mejor como Cantinflas, nadie mejor que el en el **** tema principal a cargo de Alex Sintek lo considero muy bueno y conmovedor Conclusion: Cantinflas una película en la cual su punto débil fue el guion, pero que con su buena dirección y el gran trabajo por parte del reparto en especial del magistral Jaenada evitan que se convierta en un fracaso..aunque no esta a la altura para la gran leyenda de Mario Moreno puesto que queda a deber

Cantinflas is an enjoyable film, and Oscar Jaenada is a standout in the leading role. He really does look and act like Cantinflas. The photography adds to the film, including the sepia tones used for his recollections. However, the film is unfortunately focused around Mike Todd's lunch with Cantinflas and his producer (for Around the World in 80 Days), and it returns several times to this scene. This isn't the most interesting part of the story, and the film suffers because it is used as a focal point.

A superficial account, strangely structured around repeated flash-forwards to Cantinflas' dalliance with Mike Todd and his "Around the World in Eighty Days." Wonderful performances from a very talented cast.
