The cast of characters ping-ponging around Sofia's mansion and the surrounding neighborhood feel fresh and funny, the movie consistently delivers both thrills and laughs, and there is an absolutely delectable piano scene that I won't soon forget.

Ultimately, Borderline’s various threads threaten to unravel, but it succeeds in making a point about delusion and both unrealistic expectations and the lies we tell ourselves to make it through the day.

"Borderline" (Nov 2025, 90mins, R for hard violence, Amzn Prime) This is apparently a based-on-true-story accounting of what happened to Madonna in 1995 and her song "Borderline" is worked into the film. Samara loosely plays Madonna as the pop star "Sophia" who's stalked by psycho "Paul" convincingly played by Ray Nicholson. Now Ray, is one of Jack Nicholson's out-of-wedlock kids. And wow, he basically plays "Paul" as Jack played "Jack Torrance" in "The Shining". So many psycho mannerisms track identically, it's kinda amazing. Alba Baptista, best known for her "Warrior Nun" role, plays totally against type in this as "Penny" a full-on psychopathic killer partner to "Paul", who meets a satisfying end at "Sophia's" hand. The film itself, though low budget, has good production quality, moves along pretty well, but has a social/cultural weirdness that's unsettling. It's a decent watch.

Certainly has a strong visual and storytelling style even if its pretty hollow overall.

It may not be quite as entertaining as the last time Weaving ended up in a murderous melee after a wedding ceremony. But there’s a least a few bits and bobs to keep “Borderline” from borderline failing.

Like “Cocaine Bear,” Borderline was built with “midnight movie” appeal in mind. And even if it never quite adds up to more than that, it doesn’t disapoint.

Borderline is a prime example of how a really great cast can elevate rather frail material.

The screenplay isn’t nuanced enough to switch between modes in a way that feels intentional and the result is the sense that there are a few different films jostling for attention.

Reading these review posts and wondering if ive watched the same movie as everyone… The only redeemable qualities are maybe the cast and the quality of production. Other than that, this movie falls completely flat. Its not funny and feels as though it’s been written for the consumption of brainless individuals. I feel offended after watching movies like this honestly. AND how could i forget the perpetuated agenda of emasculating the black man. For this, another point deducted.

A jumbled mess from start to finish. Confusing, uninteresting, boring and poorly executed overall.

What a waste of two talented leads. The story is an interesting mess, focusing more on the side characters than on the two leads we want to see.
