Are You Here proves a gently immersive, ingratiating, often witty character comedy with a pair of comfortably effective lead performances.

I don't understand such a low rating, I actually found the film quite enjoyable. And it was surprising to see Wilson, Poehler & Galifianakas in serious roles... just not normally accustomed to that. It was quite refreshing.

Family nor friendship, only wealth talks! It was something different, if you are fed up with the same old, the same old storylines keep repeating in all the Hollywood films. That made me keep watching it. Never was boring, but definitely should have been better in the overall story section. Because it looks more a cinematic than the real. Especially Owen Wilson character. Only fools let him near them as whatever happened in the film. But that's quite perfected since Zach's role was close to one. This is about two friends, one works in a new channel and the other one a hippie. When one of their rich father dies, they return to the hometown, that's going to change their fortune forever. But within siblings, a conflict arises and in the following events told how everything unfolds. I liked the cast. It was a wonderful combination. It was a comedy, though not a hard hitting one, neither a message film. Just a timepass film. For once watching, it is not a bad at all. 6/10

Mad Men creator Matthew Weiner makes a troublesome filmmaking debut, wasting a dream cast for a comedy in a fitful story of family tension, mental illness and corrosive self-absorption.

One dead giveaway that the comedy isn’t working is the film’s score, which overcompensates throughout by attempting to bolster every second with bouncy energy.

The two main characters in Are You Here spend much of their time stoned or weeping. Those who watch this dreadful film may seek to escape or sink into despair as well.

As it stands, there’s little to explain the existence of this confoundingly unfunny film. It’s as if a talented cast (Wilson, Zach Galifianakis, Amy Poehler) assembled to make a comedy and at the last minute was told to play everything straight.

The female characters on Mad Men are probably the show's strongest asset, but here they're hollow to the point of insult.

Slow moving comedy, gets better as it goes along. Its not as bad as some critics make it out to be, but it certainly is not a particularly strong comedy, or drama. For the amount of comedic actors it has it doesn't generate that many laughs early on, but, there were enough to make me laugh occasionally and keep me watching, and the 2nd half got stronger with the story and plot, with some humor as well, and some interesting points to think about. An OK comedy-drama worth seeing if you like any of the leads and have some patience. It has some value as a film you have to get to the 2nd half to kind of find it. Comedically some laughs from Owen and Zach, but not a hilarious comedy by any means.

I wasn't sure if this was a comedy or a drama. It was as if comics wanted to play serious roles and they all got together and made a movie. Not much to the story line, the movie didn't go very deep into the characters lives, just light entertainment.
