There are some very funny lines in A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood, much of it predicated on the outwardly ludicrous meeting of profound cynicism and hope. Lloyd’s character arc is well handled by Rhys (The Americans), and the denouement is one only a Scrooge could call humbug.

Here, it seems to be saying, was an extraordinary human being who, by offering the gift of his time and attention, couldn’t help but profoundly affect those he met. To watch this movie is to encounter him anew — not in the flesh, but in nearly every other way that matters.

Masterpiece of a film about resentment and redemption. This one had my eyes watering a bit! It amazes me how people don't care for slower dramas, when they are filled with great acting and story and characters. Anyone who is resentful and hates life should definitely watch this, because they might see themselves in this movie. Glad to be a part of my AA group where we talk about resentment from time to time, and in order to get rid of resentment, it HAS to be talked about or it consumes us.

I loved Mr. Rogers as a kid, and this movie is so much more than a replay of a Mr. Rogers episode. It's an adult perspective on a man whose messages can help people of all ages to better cope with their struggles with family, anger, self-worth, and so much more. It's soul food that we sorely need, and I'm not sure if there's a better way to get it than to look back at the incredible legacy of this man and his career and all the great messages and ideas he left for us. Mr. Rogers is timeless and a part of all of us.

The movie is tougher, and more rigorous, and more interested in the hard work of healing than empty slogans. It is true to the spirit of Mr. Rogers without every deifying him. I bet he would have loved it.

You leave this movie with questions about this odd-duck of a humanist, who eased children through the thorny feelings that come with fear, bullying, divorce, and trauma. You also leave grateful for how Hanks and Heller respect the privacy and complexity of a man who knew life was never as simple as it looks. A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood is a movie that speaks from the heart. Let it in.

A celebration of Mr. Rogers and the healing capabilities of his words and doctrine, the movie may not be a splashy as many of the year-end multiplex stocking stuffers but the experience it offers tugs effectively at the heart strings.

It’s not only Mister Rogers’s kindness that hovers over “Beautiful Day,” but also his creative spirit. Paying tribute to his skills as a composer, performer and puppeteer, the movie affirms his status as a hero of the imagination.

Aside from Hank’s brilliant performance as Fred Rogers, I also liked the style of storytelling. The movie from start to finish feels like an actual Mr. Rogers episode with its simple three-man jazz piano score and its slow, deliberate pace. The overall story is good, sweet, but predictable.

Actually, I was reluctant if shall watch or not. Tom Hanks is compelling and heart warming as Fred Rogers, a man which specialty is to healing crippled people, crippled inside. A true life history about how moral values ever preveals in the worst of times.

Not a bad movie but surprised that this movie received so much acclaim. Tom Hanks is great but this movie is more obvious than a Hallmark movie. I was surprised to find out this isn't a movie about Mr. Rogers' life. My mistake although I try to avoid trailers and reading about movies as then the movie is usually spoiled.

I liked this film, but I don't know if expectations are going to be met for audiences regarding the film's focus. They weren't for me. This is much more of a story about how Mr. Rogers affected Lloyd Vogel than it is about Mr. Rogers. In fact, I'd argue Tom Hanks is not even a co-lead in this film. Don't get me wrong, an interesting, if subtle, story is 1 told here and most people will walk out happy (myself included), but it is not what most will expect. I did like it fine, but I thought it was just okay. It was no "Won't You Be My Neighbor? "from last year. The story was just a bit too undramatic and (probably true to life to evoke the big feels I wanted from it. Ifs fine to tell an honest story, but to dramatize a true story for the big screen usually means you punch it up with some real drama. With this film, I didn't feel that work had been done. Now *that may be a choice that was made* because Mr. Rogers was often quite subtle in how he conveyed stories and messages, bui the result here was just a bit too "meh" for me. Still, there was one moment in the film that will stick with me as something I've never seen a film do before and that had a real effect on myself and, seemingly, the audience I was in. So there's some good and some 1 bad here. I won't be revisiting it. Recommend if you 4 are a Mr. Rogers fan (who isn't?) and are okay with it 4 not quite being a film *about* Fred Rogers.

I don't know Mr. Rogers and just recently got to know his old show. I want to mention a strange thing i noticed in the first 20 minutes of the movie: When the director shows the Back stage of Mr. Roger's Neighbor show, we don't see any of the (male)directors of the show there - or anywhere after that - and instead we see "Maggie" (Margaret Whitmer) one of the producers and a chick who's the first **** now we change contemporary history because of feminism?

This isn’t the Mr. Rogers I remember. He was emotionally intelligent, not some pushy magician who could see into your soul. This was very disturbing.
