SummaryIt’s the year 2073, and the worst fears of modern life have been realized. Surveillance drones fill the burnt orange skies and militarized police roam the wrecked streets, while survivors hide away underground, struggling to remember a free and hopeful existence. In this ingenious mixture of visionary science fiction and speculative nonfiction, f... Read More

2073 might sacrifice some eloquence to make its creative points, but the sincerity shines poignantly and powerfully. Let it be a galvanizing call to action.

Those who might be able to put aside despair and absorb this strictly as a work of persuasive rhetoric will be impressed with its intellectual scope, the economy of the storytelling in its fictional narrative, the bravura editing and visual panache as it builds a world full of dust, detritus and debased morals.

2073 was honestly a rough watch for me. It’s one of those documentaries that sounds intriguing from the description but ends up feeling painfully slow once you’re actually in it. The pacing is flat, the presentation is dry, and nothing ever really pulls you in. I kept waiting for a moment that would spark some interest, but it just never happened.Overall, it’s a clear 3/10 — dull, unfocused, and way too slow for its own good.

If you took the social media platform Blue Sky and asked AI to draft a screenplay based on the unfounded and deranged worldview found therein, you would likely get something like the polemic dressed up as a film we know as 2073. Totally unconcerned with historic fact or even plausibility, this screed seeks to blame all the problems of a dystopian future on a narrow, radical sliver of one political faction, ignoring even basic Snopes articles. Anyone with any sense of nuance or knowledge of politics will be hard pressed to make it past the first act. This is a pathetic attempt to launder ill-informed political grievance into a narrative, and it fails on every level.

It’s a tricky balance, and one that the film doesn’t always quite pull off, between sounding a warning and screaming with existential terror; between galvanising the audience into action and plunging them into despair.

2073 is certainly a relevant shout of rage against the authoritarian forces despoiling our democracy and our environment – and the bland and complaisant naivety that’s letting it happen.

The documentary elements are fantastic; then we have to return to 2073, a time and place that simply lacks the story, conception, cinematography, and funding needed to make it work.

The conceit of a film as a warning from the future is a promising one, but 2073 feels more like political signalling for the present.

“Don’t Look Up” told a story while jackhammering its message, but “2073” plunges its audience right into police violence and terror with little thought in the sci-fi aspect of the narrative. It’s merely the aluminum foil to deliver the filmmaker’s thesis.

Couldn’t get past the 1st 20 minutes. Movie assumed the future following far left propaganda and lies. It’s a shame as it seemed like a good premise but how we get to this dystopian world is completely backwards in its premise.

Total political left wing malarkey. If you look at the overall ratings on metacritic you'll find that it's reflected in the voting polls. Hollywood will apparently go down with the ship while they wonder why no one is going to the theater anymore. They must miss the days when people actually believed their narrative like sheep.
