Comparisons to Vampire Survivors are inevitable, and while Void Scrapper doesn’t quite hit the same highs, it’s an impressive effort that puts its own little twist on the latest genre du jour.

I really wanted to love Void Scrappers, and I enjoyed the first few hours of what I played quite a lot, but after a while, I noticed its problems and how easily they could’ve been fixed before release. However, I’m still looking forward to the next game from 8BitSkull because of this title’s addicting nature.

This is a good survivor game. I especially like that the characters are so unique, it restricts what you'll want from builds and makes initially impossible builds possible. The final boss is very satisfying to manage to beat.

I'll preface this by saying I have never played vampire survivors, but I do recognize the gameplay. This game is just downright fun. Sure there is only one button controls, but the satisfaction comes from building up your ship and strategically choosing what upgrades you want. When you start you only have the generic pilot, and the game may feel obtuse. But as you unlock the specialty pilots, new upgrades, and new weapons, the game really opens up. There are so many ways to play, and each of them are incredibly satisfying. You have your basic disc, explosives, projectiles, and laser pilots that are easy to build around. But with the stranger pilots, you can do something like a dash build, shield build, scrap build. The best part is none of the upgrades feel useless, and off build upgrades are often tempting. Getting the scrap gain or multiplier upgrade early pays dividends down the line, but seeing a 3x upgrade that isn't part of your build can be quite tempting. The music is great, the action is frenetic but you can still understand what is happening on screen. There are permanent upgrades to buy with credits you get after each run, several characters to unlock, and an ultimate character to work towards. Just a fantastic experience for only $4. If this was $15 I would still consider it a good deal.
