The Witcher: Versus

A game with massive scope. [July 2011, p.93]

In The Witcher: Versus our goal is to create a sequence of attack and defense that the opponent can't overcome. To achieve this we need to be lucky, no doubt about it, but also wise in selecting the right abilities to improve and the right items to buy. And the game is all about abilities and items.

There's no story, and the duels are rather simple; even so, that simplicity makes it an easy way to get a few minutes' entertainment. As a Witcher fan, I would have liked a more significant tie-in with the game world, but even so The Witcher: Versus is, if not a must-have, certainly a fun way to spend some time.

I was expecting more from The Witcher: Versus. While there is a certain excitement that comes with sending out challenges and waiting to see how you performed, there is also certain frustration/disappointment when you watch yourself get slaughtered time and time again without much to say in the matter.

Effectively a fancy way of playing rock-paper-scissors online, The Witcher: Versus possesses some interesting supporting features that do much to hide this fact, but not enough to hold your attention for long.

The Witcher: Versus is not for everybody, and it has a host of flaws. All the same, it's pretty enjoyable if you keep your play sessions short.
