THE SPIRIT LIFT
The Spirit Lift won’t be a game for everyone, but there’s joy to be found for players who might like a smaller bite.
The Spirit Lift takes a clever approach to deckbuilding with its party-selection mechanic and introduces players to a unique, spooky, and campy setting based on teen horror classics. While certainly a fun play, the game lacks a bit in variety and replayability, areas that could be improved greatly with simple additions to the game’s roster of colorful monsters.
If you were hoping for a really deep and engaging horror ride, you will be somewhat disappointed, but if you want a solid roguelike with a horror flavor, I think The Spirit Lift is a charming opportunity. And so by giving the game a chance, I went from “cordial dislike” to “actually quite fond of this one.” That’s why you take chances sometimes, and I’m glad I took one here.

Really bad characters to play with initially. They are flat with no personality and two of them always insult the third for no reason, no idea why. Graphics are very basic and sound design is almost non existent. Gameplay is below average in terms of deckbuilding games and you dont even get that many cards. In fact, each character has a base set of 4 each which you just upgrade. If this had cooler characters and at least some semblance of a a plot or decent writing, it would actually be worth playing. However, as it stands, its not.

The Spirit Lift is a fun new take on the rouge-lite deck builder genre with plenty of additions that make it feel full of life. Getting to explore the hotel and making active choices through the terrifying journey up to the penthouse was a great way to put some more meat on the bones of the genre and give The Spirit Lift its own identity.
