I went into The Axis Unseen hoping it would be my jam, and it was. It even made me okay with not having a map (well, after a while), and as someone who has a terrible sense of direction on their best day, that’s no mean feat. I just wanted to explore its world, fight new monsters, and see what I could find. Mostly, though, I think about the stories I got to tell while playing it, like that bit with the Elder Horned Beast I told you about at the beginning here. A little while after I got the fire arrows, I realized I could probably kill a Tree Golem with them, and when I finally ran into one, I finally took it down. It was incredible. And there are so many stories like that in The Axis Unseen. I hope the technical issues get fixed, but even with them, I think Just Purkey Games has made something special. Just... be careful if you venture into this realm between realms? You’re off the edge of the map. Here be dragons. But if you play it right, the scariest thing in this world might just be you.
The Axis Unseen is an alternative hunting game that makes the player both hunter and prey, with a palpable tension throughout. With simple gameplay, marred by some framerate issues and slight bugs, it will surely captivate gamers that can't resist being chased by monsters with a fantastic metal soundtrack.
This is a great game from a single dev. It really nails the atmosphere and the sense of explorationthat very few open world games do, where somethinguniwue could be hidden around every corner. It has better world design than stupid repetitive titles like Starfield or Assassin's Creed. It is clearly a one-man's first effort at a game though, and it does show at times with the janky animations, occasional bugginess, and amateur writing. That said, so farit'sbeen one of the most entertaining things I've played in a long ****'s an old school game with no Map and no HUD, and minimal guidance to the player. If you're used to having your hand held, this game isn't for you. But if you love the idea of getting lost in a foreboding fantasy metal realm that actually makes you think and plan a route, this game is for you.
This is a one-man project, so one should not expect the level of polish and optimization that the quality of the graphics implies (it's good and, at times, spectacular). The game offers huge vistas, diverse environments, and a growing sense of foreboding and terror. While it isn't as punishing as a Souls-like game or as frugal (or scary) as a survival horror game, in the sense that you can "lock" the energy you've gathered from kills at gates and you get fresh supplies when you die or go back to the hub, The Axis Unseen manages to intrigue, mystify and challenge the player and adds new elements in every biome to shuffle the deck and keep us on our toes. Furthermore, the minimalist approach to the map (it doesn't have one) and the HUD (it's all on our glove and bow) coupled with the sound design makes the unreal experience of the world all too real in its own manner. The Axis Unseen manages to be alien, surreal, familiar, and grounded in reality at the same time. Once the game sinks its jaws into you, it's hard to free yourself from it. If its shortcomings don't turn you off, you will want to see it through to the end.
There's potential in The Axis Unseen. The idea of an adventure game with no HUD and an emphasis on your instincts is an intriguing setup, and the use of a simple set of weapons and powers keeps you from feeling overpowered. However, the combination of laughable physics and a plethora of bugs and design issues make this a game that's difficult to love if you aren't into the heavy metal aesthetic. As it stands now, it is an interesting title, but it needs plenty of patching before it will be worth checking out.
Dont believe good reviews they are from dev, family, friends, bots, paid reviewers.
