Tavern Talk is definitely the best next step in a line of cozy drinking talking simulators, as it tells a charming and gripping narrative that echoes the adventures found in the realm of magic and fantasy. It stands out on its own as a fun and heartwarming piece of D&D with its unique cast of characters and vast world-building and pairs well with great gameplay systems that add depth to its world but could use a bit of beefing up to break up the monotony.

Tavern Talk is a wonderful window into a high-fantasy world that I never wanted to leave. Despite some repetitive gameplay, the unique tabletop spin on world-building and character interactions was an absolute delight.

Tavern Talk delivers on the coziness front, with a relaxed attitude and plenty of interesting stories to engage with. All the characters have something unique, and the game does a good job of blending fantasy elements with classic themes. Actually, creating the potions isn’t very hard and I like how they influence the outcomes of quests. Anyone who loves stories and does not care too much about gameplay will have a good time, especially if they only play one or two in-game days at a time. But the title will struggle to attract players who might want more control over their potions and their effects. Tavern Talk isn’t interested in changing the narrative-driven coffee-making experience but understands what makes it tick.

Such a wonderful game to come home to after a long day at work. The music instantly caught me and so did the art style. The relaxed conversations make me chuckle along as each character reveals their distinct personality a bit more with every line. Sometimes the game breaks the 4th wall, which I personally like, but I'm mostly in for the huge variety of characters and their personal developments. The quest-making and drink-mixing are not complex, but add some nice breaks to the reading where the game truly shines. But what makes this a 10 for me is how invested the developers seem to be. They patched in various features the community asked for right after launch and they made sure the game became more accessible on Steam Deck, too. Looking forward to seeing more games from them in the future.

If you enjoy visual novels and games very similar to this like the Coffee Talk franchise, then this is absolutely for you. It’s a slow burn that doesn’t speed up or see you getting into scenarios you could describe as epic or turning points for a universe, though. This is a game for those who want a genuine answer from friends when they ask how they’re doing, a visual novel you can take your time with and leans much more into making you feel something instead of blasting you with impressive fights, fates, and fantastic visuals.

Despite being better for having experienced it, like when I finish any good book, I pine for its narrative long after reading.

Tavern Talk makes you a side character in a fantasy adventure, and that's surprisingly fun!

Tavern Talk accomplishes everything it sets out to do: it has coziness in spades and plenty of entertaining characters to encounter. If you enjoy a gentle ride and the odd tabletop RPG, Tavern Talk will feel like ordering a favorite drink from your regular watering hole. It won’t challenge you, but it might be just what you need to refresh after a long day.

Sometimes, you don't need to be the hero of the epic adventure. Sometimes, it can be more fulfilling to enable others to maximise their potential in your stead. Sometimes, the safety and security of your own four walls are the escape from your traumatic past that you needed. Buy another round, and I'll tell you that tale, too.

English (see below for German):
I haven't finished the game yet, I estimate I'm about halfway through, but I already like it a lot. I like the art style, writing style (I'm playing in German) and the characters. Everyone has their own personality and way of talking, which is also adapted very well to German. Usually I play games in English, because German often feels more like an automatic translation without taking context into acount, but not here, it's really good! I first played the demo, which was great to get a first impression. I needed that, because it's my first visual novel game and didn't know if I'd like that. But I do like reading, so...
The demo is still online on Steam.
Unfortunately the save from the demo didn't carry over to the full game and I had to restart. Would have been nice if it carried over, but no big deal. --------------------------------------- German:

I absolutely adore this game! The characters are well fleshed out and beautifully designed. If you are looking for an amazingly written story, something laid back and cozy, while still being edge of your seat thrilling in the later half of the story, then this is the visual novel for you! The mini-games are just the right break in between that you'll need to pace it out just right and with the different outcomes it is worth coming back again from time to time. Tavern Talk just became my new feel-good-go-to-game.

A visually captivating narrative, but a flawed business simulation game. If you are seeking the experience of running a tavern, you might be disappointed as the entire game system lacks the necessary freedom to truly immerse oneself in its gameplay. Undoubtedly, this greatly impacts the overall gaming experience and I hope that these limitations can be addressed in future **** the other hand, if you are looking for an engaging fantasy story, then this is definitely worth your attention. The game excels in its artistry, music composition, and storytelling prowess. The character development is particularly impressive as they evolve and adapt throughout various events until they ultimately assume responsibility – including yourself as the tavern **** conclude with a quote from one of the characters: "Write your own story, my friend. Don't undermine yourself by believing you don't deserve it." This message is not only intended for myself but also for those who are reading this review.

Summary A cozy visual novel about running a tavern in a D&D-inspired fantasy! Gather rumors, serve magical drinks, and meet adventurers on a life-changing quest.
