An icon of brilliant gaming design. I played this game many years ago and this is what got me into X2 and X3. The only gripe I have with this is that the main character seems to have only one photo in the entire game with the backgrounds changing; on one background it is confetti and on another it's a prison, etc. but his facial expression and posture are the same. The ships are awesome and lasers and missiles are great. The writing is memorable and still holds true for today. The main character is highly loveable and depending on your choices and alliances can be a reasonable corporate thug or a freedom fighter. The missions are engaging and enjoyable. It's sad we rarely get to see games this good nowadays. After so many years I am still waiting for a sequel. Hopefully Bruce Campbell will still be joining us there. His voice acting made this awesome game great and ascend it into a total sci-fi gaming classic. Games like this make me proud of the 2000s PC gaming generation.

An absolutely awesome game. It's graphics are quite obviously outdated now but the gameplay it's not too bad if you have a open mind. The plot is very immersive and really makes you feel like the main character and you actually care about the character. It's a real bonus too that the main character is voiced by Bruce Campbell. If you like first person or third person space ship battles with a great theme of being a freelancer and accepting missions to upgrade your ship and gain crew members. Sadly, there is no mining or resource gathering- there are just missions, but that doesn't take away from the great gameplay and story.

Good old school game. Some missions are long and hard, and no save option during those would be very helpful. Resolution could be increased with simple hacks and missions are varied. Flight model is awesome and combat balanced.
