I wish the game had been a bit longer, but there is a new game+ option, and I didn't manage to get everything the first time around, so there should be some good replay value in it for me.

A decent little strategic RPG. The combat system is good, but the battles tend to be too easy and repetitive. [Mar 2006]

I really enjoyed Suikoden Tactics... maybe not as much than the Fire Emblem series, but as a huge Suikoden fan, this game is great. It plays somewhat similar to the Fire Emblem games, with slightly different gameplay mechanics. It has a good story, which serves as a sequel to Suikoden 4. Playing this after Suikoden 4 really adds to the experience and makes it that much better. Konami should really make more Tactics games featuring Suikoden characters

My actual introduction to Suikoden, and one of the first tactical games I've played not named Fire Emblem, Tactics has solid PS2 visuals, good world building, solid voice acting, good writing/story, and memorable characters. It can be a bit tough at times, requiring some grinding, but that's a knock that can apply to many games too. Permanent death for certain characters does force you to think before you play. I'd strongly recommend it for newcomers.

Gamer's Hell
The new fighting system of Suikoden Tactics is a success. By going back to basics and adding a new dimension to it through the use of affinities, the gameplay has emerged as a point of strength within the game.

Gamezilla!
Personally, I would have liked a slightly more complex gameplay but what’s here works well enough.

Gaming Horizon
It looks decent enough, and, excluding actual voiced speech, sounds decent enough too, but the overall package is a meager offering in a very competitive genre.

Official U.S. Playstation Magazine
Gameplay works when it's not broken, but awful story scenes and graphics make for boring stretches. [Dec 2005, p.118]

WHAM! Gaming
Aside from being full of useless exposition about Rune Cannons and the various empires in these Island Nations, the story doesn't even make much sense.

Somewhat forgettable tactics game. It has a charm to it at first, but loses it quickly. Does not help that it is a spin off of what I would consider the weakest entry to the Suikoden franchise. Maybe good for super hardcore fans, but other than that, it is an average tactics game.
