Star Trucker is a great addition to the genre, introducing some fresh ideas and gameplay mechanics while taking us on an exciting journey across the universe. Now we just need more of it.
Star Trucker is as valuable as any video game that offers something unique and unparalleled. It’s distinctive, bold, well-crafted, and designed with a specific audience in mind. However, if your sole interest is in driving, you might want to consider other options.
Let me start by saying this game is not Euro Truck Sim 2 so do not think you're going to be building a company. This is more a systems manager and a trucking game, you'll be checking your systems constantly and might also be truckin' in the dark with zero gravity with a box hitting your face. That being said I love it. The gameplay can be relaxing, music is brilliant and this game is so beautiful! However, my one gripe is the alignment on the mag locking. It can be annoying to get used to but you do get your eye in to it eventually, then you go for a repair and find out you're off by .1 of a meter and you cannot fix it to save your life. Once you do it though it does feel rewarding. Could this game knock Euro Truck from its throne? Absolutely not. But this game doesn't feel like its trying to do that.
The devs want you to get lost in this world and role play a Star Trucker and they do it very well with the CB (I love that feature by the way, 10/10 for that). For the price this is very worth it, I can think of many more games that cost more than this and you would not get the same experience.
Its also on Game Pass so definingly worth it.
Also if you have three screens, go for it. This game looks amazing across three screens. I'll give it a 10-4 and sign off!
You can spend tens of hours in cold space, but you have to be in the mood and have the time. The game is currently brought to its knees by shallowness and game elements that are not perfected.
If you’re hoping Star Trucker will be the kind of game you can play indefinitely, then this isn’t it. It’s fun to play through until you finish the story and unlock all of the different areas, but what it lacks in longevity, the added personality helps make up for. It does a great job of capturing the physics of its setting, almost too well, leading to a steep learning curve, though overcoming it is very satisfying.
Star Trucker shows a lot of promise. Its ease of entry, limited learning curve, and beautiful environments promise many hours of enjoyment. However, this welcome simplicity is also one of its main drawbacks. There's so much more that could have been done to improve the user experience. The biggest problem, however, is the skewed economy. Resources essential for enjoying Star Trucker are too expensive and hard to come by, making it more of a power management simulator than a space truck simulator. Choosing an easier difficulty level may alleviate some of these issues, but it points to an overall imbalance in the game. Nevertheless, given its low price and easy approachability, Star Trucker can be a lot of fun for fans of space and truck simulations, but you may not want to visit this truck stop very often.
Very relaxing if you have an efficiency bug in you and just check every sector to maximize your goods sales, job haul paths, and low fuel rates. Else you'll get screwed by air filters and batteries. Soundtrack is great on the other hand. The blend of it, space environments and the company of your truck brings about a particular experience that's nice but you know could definitely be way better.
Overall, the game is pretty to look at, the light story is nice, and the VA work was nice too, but the controls for moving around in space to just driving (flying? piloting?) the truck were not something I could get a good grasp of. This game was recommended by a friend, but I think it's just not for me. I would recommend this game to folks who love driving games, hauling games, and a chill experience, or folks who want to explore a side of space that isn't "normal". The controls are very touchy; one tap and your hauler will go forward and make you remember Newton's laws!
The idea of game is cool, but overall games buggy, especially quest sometimes you need to wait a long time or you can't complete quest. The game offers small amount of activity, so it getting bored real quick.
SummaryHaul cargo, trade salvage and keep your space suit close as you search for fame and fortune among the stars in a game that puts an interstellar twist on the truck sim genre.
