Overall, I find that this game is enjoyable for what it is, and it’s fair to say that it doesn’t try to be anything else than what it is: essentially only a multiplayer game. It’s a fun one at that, so I do indeed recommend you play it if you’re into this type of gaming.

It’s no match for the likes of Gears of War or Call of Duty, but if you can ignore the technical issues, Special Forces: Team X still has a lot going for it.

Special Forces Team X can whet the curiosity of fans, thanks to a well-balanced gameplay, but for a couple of reasons (lack in style and innovation) is not the revelation many expected.

The levelling system is fair and rapid, allowing you to get your well-muscled paws on some serious boom sticks fast. The game modes are tried and tested but that doesn't make them any less fun.

Special Forces: Team X is an unexpected treat, and on paper, it should have been a lot worse. There are some technical problems, but at the core is a solid game. Whilst it is probably not enough to lure in the hardcore COD or MW fans, it looks like there could be a fan base developing.

Behind the boring and average title, there is actually a surprisingly deep shooter. The new way of voting on a map and the different ways the game encourages you to work together with your team are refreshing and smart. There is a lot to unlock, but Special Forces: Team X is bad at showing what you just unlocked, which makes it hard to find new gear.

While Special Forces cannot contend with the expansiveness and nuance of Call of Duty or Halo, it does have an innate “pick up and play” quality.

LevelUp
A good attempt to bring competitive multiplayer to Xbox LIVE Arcade. With qualities like weapon customization or the possibility to modify every aspect of your character, this game falls short of becoming one prominent example of its genre. Maybe in the future the developers will include more weapons and new maps, but in the mean time this game is fun but doesn't offer anything new.

There’s a healthy player base right now, but without an active community over the long term, this game is really nothing. There’s enough here to keep players busy for a good long while, and with a few patches here and there, the bugs may be remedied. As of right now, for $15, you get a decent shooter with a solid package and a few problems here and there. Just make sure you have some decent teammates.

We enjoyed Special Forces’ team-focused tweaks, even with the game’s dull maps and balance inconsistencies, but this multiplayer-only shooter doesn’t make a very strong impression. It’s a couple of ranks below the genre's best — and that’s something a $15 price can’t fix.
