Project Motor Racing is a title that takes a stand, and it does so without compromise. It doesn’t aim to please everyone, it doesn’t want to be yet another flashy racing game that confuses realism with visual spectacle, and it doesn’t intend to hand out easy wins or deliver a career that passes by without leaving any mark.
Slipping up on its premise, Project Motor Racing failed to deliver a competent and realistic racing experience. While it has qualities such as its selection of cars and tracks, as well as customization options, several things fell short. These include an uninteresting visual style and problems with gameplay and customization. In the end, the game is still a minimally interesting option for fans of the genre, but nothing more than that.
ignore what people are saying about the game as they simply don't understand the form of a simulator. The cars are undrivable sure but that's why a random person can't just go into a race car and perform well. It's challenging and very different to your usual GT7, F1, or Forza motorsport, because they want the game to be realistic. the game is unfinished and it's pretty clear but unlike other games where they simply just launch the game and expect you to deal with it for however long they want the online servers to be online for, these developers want it to succeed that's why they are adding DLC, that's why they want peoples opinions to improve and fix what's wrong here. No game is perfect at the minute especially in the past few years of gaming, look at Cyberpunk for example a game that came out a buggy mess and was barley playable turned into a decent game once they actually fixed it. This game is quite different to iRacing or ACC for example as the FFB is all over the place on some cars and does slide all over the place but sadly that's the reality of racing in the real world. I do think areas to improve on is the damage model and online servers as they are horrible, the damage model is weird. Now coming from someone who sweats out the Mazda MX5 on iRacing every week it felt very different as in a lobby with my friend, crashes made the car look the exact same is when it started the race but with minor damage. A crash that should look like the car is demolished makes it look like it had minor contact. They claim this whole damage engine is very realistic but it's really not. And don't get me started on the online servers, on day 1 me and my friend with a total of 3 hours playtime got to play 4 times with each other as the servers would crash, take too long or just simply didn't work. Although this game isn't well perceived at the minute I reckon it will be fun in the future
Overall, Project Motor Racing feels like it lends more toward an arcade-style experience than the initial hype suggested. Whilst it does feature an impressive curated library of vehicles to drive (and they all sound fantastic by the way) and a decent enough career mode, it lets itself down in several ways. The AI drives on rails and is not friendly; they do not like being put two wide through a corner and will defend their line at all costs. There is also no radar or effective spotter, which makes driving in cockpit or hood view pretty dangerous when things are getting tight on track. Whilst it is a playable game on a controller, it just is not the benchmark simulation racer that it was touted to be.
As a spiritual successor to Project CARS, Project Motor Racing takes a major step forward in car handling and environmental feel, but at full price, its limited content and lack of guidance make it an underwhelming experience.
There's a lot of good and a lot of bad with Project Motor Racing. The handling is unique and challenging, while the Career Mode and online ranked license system are different and unique. The range of cars is great for fans of racing over the years. More will come with DLC in the future, but the various physics elements for the different cars provide something most console racers haven't experienced. The development team really wants to make this as close to the real experience as possible, but unfortunately, the LMDh class is broken and undriveable. The ultimate immersion breaker is just how frustrating and atrocious the AI is, and they can't even be bumped out of the way, all while pushing players around. The online races are fine before release, and having a custom lobby system will be a plus. It's also cross-platform, so the lobbies and races can have the maximum possible players. Project Motor Racing has big issues that hinder the experience, but the GT Cars are worth experiencing.
Project Motor Racing is a visually impressive, no-nonsense sim designed for the hardcore crowd. It's punishing and demanding, yet deeply rewarding for those willing to master its steep learning curve. That said, the game lacks flair and the absence of mechanical damage is a missed opportunity.
Right now, Project Motor Racing feels like an early access game that hasn’t actually been identified as such. There are certainly glimpses of a competent racing sim here, but it is drastically unfinished. With time, and its mod browser, I sincerely hope it can be fashioned into something that can fill the void left by the long-delisted Project CARS 2, but it's an entirely mediocre single-player racing experience for now. Project Motor Racing may have positioned itself as the heir to the Project CARS 2 kingdom, but it is simply not a better racer than its 2017 ancestor.
I'm sorry but I have to say.I waited for this game for a long time, and I was so excited. I pre-ordered the game in July and was really hyped until I booted the game on my ps5 **** that PlayStation is not giving the refunds after you tried the game. Now ,I hope developers will fix this mess to justify my 80€ waste.
I’ve been playing GT7 since release. Far from perfect game but fun from the get-go and great graphics. I was looking forward to Project Motor Racing as a GT and endurance racing sim alternative. Lots of beautiful videos and huge promises leading up to the release. What a disappointment this game is. An ugly, buggy mess. Most of the newer cars are impossible to drive and the graphics on the PS5 look more like a PS3. Trash. I want a refund.
