This was supposed to be right up my alley, given that the Dishonored and Bioshock series are favorites of mine. But Prey, despite an interesting and engaging start, with a cool "twist", does not reach the level of these games, mostly due to some frustrating design choices and the nature of the setting itself. I do not find most sci-fi settings very interesting to explore or engage with. I'm much more of a fan of "punk" inspired games that go for a more retro look, while still incorporating supernatural or futuristic elements. Prey's environments are sadly more of the bland, flat and boring variety you can find in most standard sci-fi games, with a few exceptions like the Talos I lobby. The difficulty and enemies, however, is the most frustrating part of the game for me, with repetitive and infuriating enemies (Phantoms) that are very boring from a design perspective and can easily one-shot you at the slightest miscalculation. And that's because the stealth system is very rudimentary and poorly done, as opposed to Dishonored, for example, which is more focused on stealth but at the same time offers a competent combat system, should you choose to go that route. The problem is Prey is not a combat focused game, but it also isn't a pure stealth experience, so when facing enemies, at least at the early stages of the games, the best you can do is make a run for it and hope you don't get killed in a single blow, so you end up save scumming and trying over and over again until you can get it right. Even the mimics, which are the shapeshifting enemies, were not that interesting to me, and more of annoyance to kill with how fast they move. I ended up dropping the game about 6 hours in, 2 of which were probably wasted getting killed over and over again, even after lowering the difficulty. As a busy adult, I have limited hours to dedicate to videogames, and I can't waste them in a game where I'm dying over and over again (also why I dropped Bloodborne). Some people with more time to spare could probably sit through it and enjoy it more, but I think 6 hours is a good enough amount of time to determine if they game will click, something at which Prey failed. Overall, pretty disappointed with it, far from the heights of the Dishonored games.

I've been playing the game with quite some delay (it's 2026), so trust me if I say Arcane Studios knows how to make game that age like fine wine; It's a tiny bit more dirigist than a classic "Immersive Sim", which is not a default in that case. Ambiance is great, the progression ladder is well balanced. The game is quite hard at first, you die a lot, but as you get powers and upgrade, it becomes very enjoyable. Gun fill is nice and responsive, the GlueGun allows for some innovative way of reaching to some complex space. I would say the stealth mechanics are not very good, but that's ok, it's not really a direction the game pushes you towards; I love the interaction with the environnement, the way you interact with screens is something I've never seen before. There could be more variety in ennemis, but it work well anyway. I'm enjoying playing the game, never getting bored, often surprised. If you loved classic Arcane studio games, you should definitely give that one a chance. It's a pity Arcane Austin won't make great games like this one anymore...

The way the world opens up and delivers secrets and areas to you as you progress is masterfully executed. The abilities change the way the game sees you which makes this a replayable classic.

Generally pretty good, but some parts of it are really hard to figure out with a guide. And the gameplay got a bit repetitive.

An interesting idea that is completely ruined by poor balancing. Enemies are bullet sponges, which is a weird design choice considering the fact that ammo is incredibly scarce. It wouldn't be such a sin if the combat was actually exciting, but it's the exact opposite. Every enemy encounter I've had with the enemy felt punishing rather than rewarding.

Finally got around to playing thisone and was so pleasantly surprised. The story was intriguing the whole way through and the gameplay and mechanics were a breath of fresh air. Rewards multiple playthroughs and playstyles. Cant say that it will be everyone's cup of tea, but in my opinion it was well worth the 20 hrs.

I love this game, even though I haven't finished it (nor do I think I will because it's so difficult and I have to rewind, which is so lazy, hehe), I think it's a great work. The horror is perfect; it's not over-the-top, but it's not nonexistent either, and it's a story that, my god, I love.

TLDR: One of the best games ever made. Pros: + Original idea and unique gameplay + A true sense of freedom in how you play + Unique and striking visual style + Beautiful music + Interesting plot twist Cons: – The game might put off players who prefer more straightforward entertainment. If you're not into exploring complex mechanics and layered storytelling, this one might not be for you

Started off really good but game got frustrating towards the second half of the game. Developers just decided to spam so many enemies throughout the maps while having a resource system that makes it impossible to have enough ammo or consumables to deal with it. It’s unfortunate and got too frustrating for me to finish it.

This review will not cover basic aspects that most will no doubt already have done, but more intricate aspects that would otherwise bloat basic overviews and not be mentioned, but need to be. That being said, I cannot go without stating that Prey 2017 is the one of the best games ever made that Bethesda just decided to not f* tell anyone about. Absolutely maddening how brilliant this game was- an (almost) true reversion to the Immersive Sim genre, and not an entirely linear effort more concerned with scripted events than emergent gameplay and player choice. Brilliant though it is however, where it predominantly **** up is not just the story (which is a solid premise that quickly trips over and breaks one of the legs it stands on), or the player/enemy strength and item balancing (a criminally underrated and rarely successful facet of game design) but the replayability. The game has replayability, but potentially so much more where a true immersive sim really counts and goes from an already great game to one of the best. For a completely inexplicable reason, the devs deliberately circumcised the game's non-linearity for no decent reason whatsoever. Neither bugs, nor sequence-breaking, nor overpowered player stats could have possibly excused a lot of subtle game design aspects in which players are denied access to particular areas of the game's world early on, perfectly encapsulated in the Neuromod Division lobby's upper level. Keypads are either broken, or gated off to the highest hack skill, or given randomised codes (per playthrough, as are Safes), severely limiting where players can go earlier on despite there being no rational excuse for doing so- the game is already bloated with powers that trivialise the combat, so it makes no sense, and only bottlenecks how free and open the map can be, and how much variation repeat playthroughs allow. I don't doubt a fan mod on PC could easily fix most of this game's problems in at least a week, if there hasn't been already. The DLC, 'Mooncrash' is also a rarity in itself: An actual big-budget, 3D Action game Roguelite experience, easily on par with the main game itself (though suffering the same balancing and story issues). Just play Prey 2017's demo and find out for yourself, already. Its design mostly maintains the evolved MetroidVania-style elements that made the Immersive Sim the best video game genre outright, and what all 3 BioShock games later failed to mostly preserve.

An Excellent Blend of FPS and RPG from the Creators of DishonoredPrey is a unique mix, blending the best elements from games like Bioshock, Half-Life, and System Shock. It features a fantastic storyline with a well-executed plot twist, plenty of side quests, hours of audio logs on the TranScribe, and a variety of readable content. Most importantly, it grants players a high level of freedom in completing missions and approaching objectives in their own way. Not every game lets us kill any NPC (unlike Fallout 4 or The Witcher 3), and, more importantly, the game continues to progress in its own unique way regardless!I’m sure I’ll replay it in the near future, even just for the soundtrack, which stands out among other games. Matt Piersall and Raphael Colantonio have done an impressive job. Tracks like Semi Sacred Geometry and Mind Game outshine the competition.Unfortunately, Prey has its issues, mainly with relatively frequent loading screens. While transferring the game to an M.2 drive did reduce load times, it still disrupts the game’s immersion. On the plus side, the loading screens provide interesting tidbits about the game’s universe, which is a nice ****’s tough to settle on a final rating—on one hand, it offers a fantastic story, immersive world, and solid mechanics; on the other, those frequent load screens hold it back a bit. Nevertheless, I stand by my earlier rating.I hope for DLC or a continuation, as the game truly deserves it. ( ͡° ͜ʖ ͡°) Late 2024, and this game still rocks!

If you enjoy densely packed small interconnected worlds this game is one of the greatest games of all time. Every person on the space station has their own life and interpersonal drama you can learn about. As with all immersive sims, if you spend the time to read all the emails and listen to all the audio logs you will get way more out of the game. The real star here is the level design. It has a 3D Metroidvania design element that I'm a real **** for. It's the type of world where you literally need to search every square inch of the station. They did a wonderful job with the verticality of the levels too. I was consistently sure I had explored every part of an area, only to discover entire new areas I missed on my next playthrough. I would miss them because they were only accessible through a small vent hidden in the ceiling or behind a large piece of furniture I needed an upgrade to move. The only thing that can be seen as a negative is the enemy variety. But it makes perfect sense within the story. An intelligent parasite-like race of aliens has infected the ship. It wouldn't make sense for there to suddenly be 100 different types of them. But there are several and the most common can turn into ANY item on the ship. Creating this wonderful mind game where you begin to question your reality and if that chair or cup was just there a second ago. So I don't see the enemy variety as a negative. The TL;DR: Take the plot of Dead Space, mix it with the interconnected level design of Dark Souls, and add a heaping tablespoon of Deus Ex's densely packed design philosophy and you have Prey, one of the greatest and most underrated games of all time.

I think that is game is one of the best story games that I have played rivaling that of GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption. Now I haven't played many story games but please buy the game if you like a deep and thought-out story with many puzzles and a good difficulty.

Prey is sublime: it's gaming as an art form. Like Deus Ex and Bioshock, it creates a fantastic and believable world, and gives you almost total freedom: you can develop your character the way you want, go wherever you want when you want (with some limits at the beginning), play the way you want, surmount obstacles with the tricks you prefer... and you can plan your strategy at your leisure. Prey immerses the player in this awesome space station (the architecture is breath-taking), it gives him lots of tools and toys, and it lets him play freely with them. It's no surprise some people replay it many times: it's because the game allows you to make what you want of it.

Enfim, recomendo.

Number of playthroughs: Played the game 2 times but never finished the game once Total Hours played: 30 I felt that I was too harsh on the game the first time so I thought I’d give the game another go this time on Windows. Sadly the experience didn’t change much more. Let's start with the positive aspects. 1) I Love the hoarding mechanic and recycling. It is a ton of fun, especially for a hoarder like me 2) The gunplay feels good. Weapons pack a punch and you can feel every shot Onto the negative aspects:1) First and the worst is the level design. I always hate sci fi locations. They are bland, generic by choice. I find them boring and confusing. Instead of having a wide map like Witcher 3 where interesting things happen all over the map, Prey’s map is multi leveled. They are layered on top of one another. Aside from being extremely convoluted and maze like, the areas are super boring and bland. I know comparing Prey to Witcher is unfair but their map design is so far apart. Most locations in Witcher are fun to look at. Sadly Prey’s level design isn’t that. You move from one boring sci fi location to another. At first, I wrote down locked safes and doors or locations that needed specific powers to unlock. But after a few hours, there are so many things that you pass by that you lose track of. I honestly don’t remember any details about what I wrote let alone go through the maps to their locations. Bioshock 1 and 2 had similar premise as Prey in terms of location but they were much more pleasant on the eye. And the fact that you didn’t have to go through them 100 times helped as well.2) At this time enemies like telepaths are too strong and bullet sponge e and deal so much damage. Just stand still for a second and you’ll get obliterated. So it seems unfair 3) I also hated the zero gravity areas. controls were not good and the spaces were too big Overall, I really wanted to finish the game the second time I played it but it turned out that I could tolerate the game even less. The areas are what killed the game for me sadly

I'm socked at how pedestrian this game is after listening to the hype for years and trying it out. And Arkane's customary technical flaws are present too, causing several crashes on my console. Honestly this is a fairly good Bioshock clone, but it's not really amazing at anything in particular. Even bought for a significant discount, it felt generic and tedious

This is a great survival exploration fps in the same league as Deus Ex. The environments and graphics are great and it offers a few unique twists here and there such as the use of space and zero gravity. However this game has a few issues that make you feel like you are sometimes just knee deep in too many options and the game seems to make playthrough very difficult if you want a simpler experience. For one the amount of resources you get to constantly keep your health and armor and ammo stocked up tends to dwindle towards the end of the game. This game is like Bioshock or Dead Space - you have the whole place to explore and backtrack as you see fit and much of the time it is unavoidable. There is one fast-travel option via the main lift but you may not be able to unlock that until you get more experience with the best weapons and techniques in the game. One thing that is particularly tiring was that most levels will repopulate the area with medium to challenging Typhon after you initially clear them, however the amount of ammo and raw material you can pickup throughout the game typically does not come back. This makes the late-game particularly tiring and grinding and there were several times i considered just turning it off and moving on to something else. And the loading times are pretty significant. Combine this with the level the design - which is gorgeous - but often complex and basically supplemented with a map that doesn't really help and is not able to appear onscreen during gameplay, I found myself running circles in the same area trying to find a door or going between areas, spending alot of time on loading screens. They give you plenty of ways to make a unique build - definitely more than some but if you want a simpler playthrough, just a shoot and clear playthrough you may find it frustrating with a severe lack of ammo and material to make more. I played on Normal with basic survival elements turned on. In hindsight I should have played on a lower setting but there was no way to change that after starting and no level select from the main menu. In the late game the levels repopulate with very challenging Typhon which in many cases i didnt have the resources to kill so i ended up running through the levels towards the very end. I was either constantly out of shield, health, or ammo. The story is interesting but I think just goes on for a bit too long, and combine that with the backtracking, it feels unnecessary. Compare this to games with similar styles and story telling elements - Deus Ex, FEAR, Dead Space and its clear that some linearness actually is preferable. But with Prey you will have to run from one end of Talis 1 and back several times to finish it out and probably die dozens of times battling Typhon and dodging deadly hazards. If they could have polished the late game and made the player feel a bit more powerful I would put this around 85+ for a score. The game is super ambitious but trips over itself in a few ways. I would rate this at about 78. Well made, doesn't really have that thrill that similar games brought in the past, but enjoyable and in league with similar titles.

Talos 1 is a great setting for the game. Playing through the game felt like a less linear bioshock. The ending leaves a little left to be desired but sets the game up for a potential sequel.

It doesnt feel like a sci-fi horror . Its pretty sci-fi but its nothing like the other sci-fi horror triple AAA titles . Excellent Visuals Excellent Sound Tracks & Engineering. GUI and HUD is Excellent. Gun mechanics are Good The level Up and skill system is good. The hacking feature is overly too easy there doesn't seem to be challenging. A bit Sluggish And Slow Paced Story Movment is overly like fluid without the aspect of realism Pros: Story Narrative Is Good Excellent graphics And Sound. Interface Easy To Learn And Getting Used to. Good Gun Mechanics Good Abilities A bit Choppy tho Cons : Gameplay is fair. I didnt feel engaged in the time i played the game. Not A Horror game because it lacks jumpscares its very direct . No suspense or or bg sounds to support the horror aspect. Sluggish Story . Not very intriguing half completed the game u feel like u cant play anymore and ask when is it gonna end . Because you have to backtrack alot in order to proceed . Very fluid movement feels like movent from the games of 2010 and older gen games . Less realistic

Really cool game. Good: I did like the story. I did get very addicted when stuck on certain levels. This game makes you think, many ways to solve a problem. Weapons were creative. Bad Many of the deaths just didn't make sense, very aggravating. Way path was often very difficult to figure out. If I spun off on a side story it often resulted in the Main story being very difficult because of the resource **** and or the side story not being possible to complete. These two things resulted in extended and annoying game play to get back on track. User needs some help here. Need a resource table.

ok game. Over rated by people. It is full of glitches and icky stuff, just does not feel right to play. Difficulties are a joke. I played on hardest with survival boxes checked. The game felt boring and easy You will have an overwhelming amount of resources. WHich what you can craft an overwhelming amount of AMMO. Enemies are very limited and all easy to take down. The most annoying are repeated and the hardest ones are easy escapable. ( you can ignore events) This game does not offer anything special or particular about games. If you have NEVER EVER played a game in your life and really could not care for a story, this is "maybe" for you

The thing that dissapointed me first time i ran the game was that on ps5, i thought that the game will run smoothly in 60 fps, but no. It runs 30 fps, and at some moments it doesn't feel smooth at all. First of all i will tell my pros about this game. Sountrack is mysterious and almost horror-like. The opening of the game makes you want to learn more about what's happening. I like that the game doesn't want you to attack enemies head on, but to sneak and evade combat . Recycling system is a nice thing, too. Now for the cons.. There is a lot of backtracking as i push forward through the story. Variety of enemies is not very big, and later on they become so annoying and boring. I only liked the mimics, the rest is standard generic enemies, especially the phantoms, which have only one voice effect, and later it gets very annoying when you sneak and listening that one same voice over and over and over. Detection system sometimes gets really clunky, i think that in Dishonored it was better. The last third of the game was the worst for me, because of constant backtracking from one end of Talos to another, but not only that. The game throws ten times more enemies in the same area that you went already, and it doesn't add nothing interesting to the game, only pumps up the difficulty and that's it. So for me, the last 5 hours of the game was basically rushing from one objective to another, to avoid combat, and save the ammo. The game overall wasn't constant, you get one good mission, and after that you get two, three bad. It is a ok game, but nothing spectacular for me. Considering the start and the end of the game (they were excellent) , this game had a potential for something more.

FPS that's best described as Bioshock in space. The only real problem is that it treads very much the same ground as Dead Space but with a more "family friendly" and sterile feel and so is nowhere *near* as good. Competently executed but lacking that extra "oomph!" that makes for a truly great game.

Not sure what I disliked so much about the game. One thing was the clunky looting system. It’s a Bethesda game & I guess I’m just over the look & feel of their games. If the game would have been third person I think I’d would have enjoyed it more. I played a little over four hours & I forced myself to do that much hoping it would get better. The game ran well, looked fine but I couldn’t get into the story. Maybe I just missed something. I gave it a six because as a game the technical parts performed well but the story fell flat for me.

This game is a fun few days, and should keep you entertained for awhile. The gameplay is dull early on, but picks up once you get more weapons and start upgrading them. It nails the atmosphere of being in a desolate, overrun space station; and so it keeps you grounded and immersed. The graphics are pretty good too. The Typhon are interesting enemies that are made to be unsettling and tense, meaning you always have to be alert around them (especially the Mimics). The characters are, unfortunately, pretty dull and uninteresting; there's maybe two or three of them with any substance to them. The soundtrack is also lackluster, being overly screechy and sounding like it was composed of generic dark ambient stock music overlaid with the occasional synth interlude. This doesn't impact the experience too much since the music is inoffensive at worst, meaning it's easily ignored. The positive points here outweigh the negatives, in my opinion. The good gameplay and phenomenal atmosphere more than makes up for a somewhat mediocre soundtrack and a few uninspired characters.
