MLB The Show 20 presents itself as a great package, improving on most of its gameplay mechanics, including batting and fielding experience. With plenty of game modes, great Diamond Dynasty and online experience, and plenty of new animations it is a significant upgrade of the last year’s The Show 19, and proving itself worthy of purchase, by avoiding to follow the example of copycat sports franchises like FIFA and NBA 2K.

MLB The Show 20 marks another solid entry for the series. New additions to the fielding game are welcome and fans of the sport will find a wealth of systems and modes to enjoy. It may be a bit overwhelming for newcomers, but offers a great range of tutorials to get payers up to speed. There's a lot of game here, provided you enjoy the sport. While it wont make you a fan if you weren't already, it's still the best rendition of the sport you can enjoy from the comfort of the couch.

MLB The Show 20 brings tons of minor changes that, when combined, push the game towards greater heights than ever before.

My favourite iteration of the series, after taking a while to tune everything to my preference the game just clicked. There is a significant learning curve to these games, but once you get it they are phenomenal. With tons of game modes there are literally 1000s of hours gameplay here, but its up to you to sift through what you're going to enjoy. To be fair, the sheer volume of content can be quite overwhelming but stick with it, find a mode you like, and you won't regret it

As bad as 2021 is, this game ****. People argue about whether or not events and game outcomes are predetermined or scripted. Well, they are. I’ve copied save files and replayed moments and games to see the outcomes and get the same results each time, the same at bats with the same runners on and the same score. The game is pure sim since about 2018, maybe earlier. The team at SDS is a bunch of liars and the community is full of morons who believe them. Waste of effing time.

Overall, MLB The Show 20 is another marvel for San Diego Studios. The tweaks they implemented and the gameplay options they have provided only stand to improve the product. They own baseball in gaming and it looks like they’re not ready to give it up anytime soon.

MLB The Show 20 is less like that random pitcher who threw a perfect game, and more like your perennial Cy Young candidate. You can count on the franchise to come out year after year with quality content and gameplay. While the actual season may not be happening soon, MLB The Show 20 is sure to keep baseball fans glued to their screens.

In my large opinion, MLB strikes right. Surely something great would added, right? Well something was! You can now have leagues for ONLINE mode, which makes playing with friends and hosting events way easier than ever before on the game! San Diego Studios, MLB, and SONY are the best, also allowing custom music to be used like EA and 2K!

MLB The Show 20 mainly nails its core gameplay, and its many modes deliver compelling experiences. It’s not the best the series could be, but it makes you hold your breath in that moment before a crucial pitch or swing of the bat – a moment I love living in.

The series remains excellent and the updates are nice, even if these updates are focused more on appeasing the hardcore fans that play and grind on a daily basis. The online experience is still suspect but is vastly improved. Even though it may not be the best value, MLB The Show 20 remains the top dog in representing its sport on a video game platform.

Sony's sitting on an incredible base and foundation. The series could do something about offering more casual baseball fans something to enjoy on their own terms, but that applies to all AAA-blockbuster sports games, and MLB The Show has the decided advantage of being a sport that's actually enjoyable.

Good, but not great! It seems like they ham-fisted a couple new modes in, but failed to address many of the issues and missing Legends from MLB 18, only added a few this year, and they don't look very good, i.e. John Smoltz. Use the Vault for better versions.

The game is almost perfect, but baserunning is extremely broken. Hit and runs are broken, stolen bases are sometimes broken, etc. Some other issues: the AI on easier difficulties is extremely good at hitting fastballs right on the lower corner for home runs, and the AI seems to know what you are going to do (they almost always slidestep when I steal).

The online mode, Diamond Dynasty is the main attraction for these games. Build a team and compete against other player’s teams is the basic premise. Each year the same players end up being used on everyone’s team with little to no variety. This is mostly due to the fact that each year there’s specific attributes that are must have’s for hitters and pitchers. If you hitters have no power, vision, and bad fielding, they are useless. If your pitcher doesn’t have a fastball or sinker that hits 97+ and a shallow arsenal of offspeed pitches, they are useless. You’ll be facing the same pitchers every game and pitching to the same lineups every game. Then there’s the way you get these cards. You either grind for hours doing tedious gameplay loops to get one good card or you can just buy them with real money using the in game economy. So either pay to get good cards or play for 100+ hours to build a full team of good cards. The other main mode is Road to the Show. Campaign mode where you create a player and work your way through their career from the minor league to the major league. It’s fun for a while but then you realize there is little to do other than just play the games and upgrade your player slowly. There’s not too much depth into the behind the scenes world of the MLB that you get to interact with. In short, this game has greedy micro transaction “loot boxes” (card packs in this game) and must have attribute system to determine a player’s usefulness. Sports games need to improve and stop being greedy to their loyal playerbase.

I really do like MLB the Show series but this is the worst one I have played. The substitution bugs when simulating games in franchise mode ruin the entire mode unless you plan to play 182 games. Quick manage is a joke in this verison. You're better off just playing The Show 19.
SummaryRun the table and rake in rewards with brand new mode “Showdown”. A new experience and updates throughout DD make Diamond Dynasty the best version yet.
