While it’s still got room to grow, what’s here is great for fans of baseball. MLB The Show 17 is a clear step up from 2016 in gameplay, presentation, and overall experience. Some control and commentary quibbles remain, but not enough to detract from what is the best in the series to date, and one of the best baseball games today. As a PS4 exclusive, Xbox players should be envious.
Changes in physics and AI make the game more realistic and enjoyable, but there are still some issues with AI player decision making that can detract from the final product. Road to the Show mode is still fun with a new documentary twist, but it's ultimately the same mode as last year. The Show 17 is a good title for baseball fans new and old, but don't expect anything mind blowing this time around.
MLB The Show 17 is still a great game of baseball but one that with each season seems less and less impressive compared to other sports games available. With a lack of competition, it's hard to not recommend. But with each year I'm still wanting to see the team at Sony San Diego push the envelope even if there isn't any competition to force their hand.

I LOVED this game! Best road to the show mode that has ever been produced. The only downside to this game is that they removed online support.

The first baseball game I played since 2013, and I was surprised to see how good it is. The graphics, and presentation are definitely top notch for an MLB game like this.

Of course, if I'm being honest, offline single-player is what I care about most when it comes to MLB The Show anyway, so it's not like multiplayer was going to change my opinion too much one way or the other. And from that perspective — that is, as someone who's probably going to spend a few hundred hours with the game over the next year, with 95% of that being in RTTS — I have to say that MLB The Show 17 once again delivers.

Freaking awesome. Any true ballplayer would appreciate the game they've put together with The Show. Didn't play another game for a full 7 months after it's release... it's THAT good.

Sony has rarely struck out with their annual MLB The Show series and this year’s entry manages to keep that trend going. With the worthwhile improvements to Road to the Show, Franchise Mode, and the incredibly fun addition in Retro Mode, San Diego Studio has knocked it out of the park with MLB The Show 17.

A joy to play, as ever - though we could've done without the clear-as-day influence of the PS3.

MLB The Show 17 takes smart, calculated approaches to improving its gameplay while expanding the Road to the Show Mode with its addition of an ongoing narrative. In an attempt to solidify an excellent baseball simulation experience, one with more control over minute details in all available gameplay modes, the development team builds upon a solid base.

MLB The Show 17 continues the series' fantastic tradition of consistency and refinement. Improvements to its various game modes give you more ways to play the game how you want to, and the action on the field has never been better, with smarter fielding AI, and enhanced ball physics that bring the hitting to life. Commentary is still a little too stilted for my liking, and there are other blemishes lurking throughout. But when you connect with a fastball and send the ball spiralling into a gap in center field, any issues retreat to the back of your mind. This is America's National Pastime at its best.

The Show 17 is fundamentally sound, but doesn’t move the sports genre forward. It will appease longtime fans that flock to it year after year, but until the series does something remarkably different, it’ll fall short of being able to stand out of the pack. This year’s version of The Show does a lackluster job of making it seem like anything more than a yearly roster update built upon the same foundation of last year’s game and that is by far the heaviest critique that can be handed down to any yearly sports title.

I've been buying this game since it first came out and it gets better and better each year. I've sold my PS4 because my Xbox One S sufficed for my gaming,, ended up buying a PS4 Pro just for this game. So i'm playing a $400 game right now lol. In any case, I figured it would be the same as last year. It is somewhat. Graphics seem a bit sharper, more animations, movement looks much more fluid, there are mistakes players make that would happen in real life. The main thing about this game is that I have an unusual last name, but somehow when I create my player, they have my name there even announcing it as well! That is a SUPER PLUS in my book. Other games like NBA, Fifa, Madden do not have this. This goes to show you the attention to detail, especially the littlest things, matter to these group of developers and team that make this game. Get this game, you will not be disappointed. It especially has a pretty fun throwback classic mode where you can pick up and play with a friend like the old RBI Baseball days.

The show is becoming too much like Madden... The same game every year with updated rosters. I read some reviews that the graphics look better. But they don't. They're the same. I'm fact the hair and beards look worse than ever. The ball parks and crowds do look better though. It's a good game. Just not great. And it is very much the same as recent the show games. Also I am noticing WAY too many BS plays. Multiple CPU batters crushing base hits on sinkers under the strike zone. And then I ground out on a chest high strike with great timing. Happens way too often, way more than past years. Maybe they will patch it. Also, I am very disappointed to say that The Show is taking a page from 2K. The upgrade points in RTTS are down a LOT from years past. Meaning that The Show is trying to make you spend real $ to buy upgrade points.

For those who have played The Show before: It's a good game. You're not missing much new stuff with MLB 17 The Show though. It's pretty much the same (as with all the other years). Of course every year you have reviews that say 'this years Show is the best in the series' (im paraphrasing of course). New ball physics make for a slightly different look and feel when playing. But then again, every year always feel slightly different anyway. For those who have not played The Show before; This is definitely a good place to start. No last gen version, so you're getting a 100% current gen game. Several different game modes to hold your attention and hopefully give you at least one game mode you really love playing. I don't really shouldn't have to go into much detail with a ****'s a sports game. Looking up about 10min of gameplay and then 5min of what the game modes are, will tell you pretty much everything you need to know.

Playing on PS4 Pro. Even high-framerate mode isn't very smooth, the generated character pictures are downright ugly, game doesn't look much better than MLB 2K13, AI isn't that great and it isn't uncommon for them to completely ignore a ball as it slowly rolls by them so a farther away fielder can go for it, you don't have full control of your character so if it doesn't want you to make a play then you can't move, and the game freezes in RTTS randomly after a game ends and you go to the next game in the series. Fully patched, game has been out for months, and still a Horribly coded experience. I would return if I could and sadly this is the only option to play MLB...

I have to give this a three for some awful planning. Every year it's the same, tons of issues. There are some pretty horrendous bugs as well such as fielders not moving when balls are hit over their heads. Many of the same issues as last year that they always promise they will fix but never do. Beautiful graphics this year. Finally a step up which is long over due. Ball physics are nice. Not able to access anything online. And seven hours with it a response or comment from then is telling. They have some of the worst customer service in the gaming business.
