If you’re looking for another precision platformer with strong gameplay mechanics and sharp level design, Garlic is your guy. But it isn’t the only game to do those things by any stretch of the imagination, is it? The thing is, I can’t say I’ve ever played a game of this sort that had Garlic‘s ridiculous energy to it. There’s a Wario-ish bent to it, but it’s even stranger than that series tends to be. I think that kind of thing is subjective and as a result you’re either going to love it or hate it, but it really worked for me.

Hey Poor Player
I honestly found Garlic a joy to play, steep challenge and all. While the game may be a little intimidating to some, I found it quite engaging. It features a diversity of content, crazy challenges, great visuals, and a style that was quite unlike anything in recent years. If you’re not worried about dying a few dozen times, I’d say any fan of platformers or old-school games should give this a try.

Garlic is difficult retro platformer that manages to be accessible to those normally put off by “difficult,” “retro,” and “platformer.” Copious checkpoints and a fun mix of styles, visuals, and mini-games should push even the more casual gamers through. Give Garlic a try; the taste may surprise you.

On the whole, "Garlic" has become a good game of the genre. The various possibilities in the course of the game and also the other elements in the course of "Garlic" are well done. On top of that, the controls are good and fast. The challenges aside from the action are also fun and offer a lot of bang for your buck, in addition to the good graphics and sound. If you like to experience a classic gaming experience with numerous good features again, then get "Garlic" home with pleasure.

Hello everyone! This review will be in Russian (the original), with an English translation (the English translation won't be exact). I played the game on Switch, got to floor 4, and got stuck on stage 4 of floor 4. Starting from around floor 3.5, the platformer turns into pixel-perfect grinding — a ton of pixels that simply don't let you get through the game normally, and on top of that, starting from floor 4, you have no extra lives at all, because every object placed in the game one-shots you. Despite a death counter of around 1000+, the game doesn't offer to lower the difficulty (there's no such option in the settings), but there does seem to be some kind of buff in the game — if you look at the Steam reviews, there's mention of some sort of booster (?!). Maybe it's only given on later stages — the game never gave it to me. The control precision leaves a lot to be desired: if you're doing pixel-perfect platforming, the controls need to be exact down to the millimeter, but instead a dash off the floor combined with a jump up doesn't actually go straight up — it tilts to the side (a very high chance of landing on a saw blade or spikes). The main problem is that the game copies Celeste, and because of that both the game and the player stuck inside it suffe.
