All these transgressions against convention add up to the most engrossing deck-builder of the past couple of years. [Issue#420, p.96]
Death Howl takes deck building and tactical combat and adds soulslike mechanics, offering a solid, coherent, and atmospheric experience that stays with us long after we've played our last card.

An absolutely beautiful game, I was totally engaged from start to finish. Won’t spoil the end but I so wasn’t ready for that, such an emotional journey. Anyone that’s lost someone close will relate to this story on a different level, tissues at the ready, last message before the credits totally folded me more than any other game I’ve played.

Playing Death Howl, I discovered an experience that is simultaneously strange, challenging, and unforgettable. It doesn't just want to entertain you; it wants you to feel each victory as a legitimate achievement, and each defeat as a lesson for the next **** you enjoy games that blend strategy, emotion, and difficulty with a touching narrative layer, this indie title deserves a place in your library. It made me think, react, and even pay attention to the deck of cards as if it were a supporting character in Ro's sad and nuanced story. Google: Patobah

Death Howl is amazing. It takes the deck builder and the Soulslike and makes something I didn’t know I was missing. As a Day One Game Pass title on PC, it’s there and ready if that interests you. The game comes to consoles on February 19th, 2026. It is a 30+ hour playthrough with incredible highs, even at its most frustratingly difficult moments.

The deckbuilder and the soulslike accommodate each other well, even if Death Howl is initially too busy killing you to show its best hand.

Though I felt the game’s progression system was somewhat flawed, Death Howl still managed to impress me thoroughly with its incredible storytelling, art, and unique blend of genres, creating something utterly unique and highly memorable.

The struggle in Death Howl is real, both in terms of its story and challenge. It’s meaningful and haunting. While it can mean going through quite a bit of grinding and dealing with major foes and a bit of unfair RNG, it is a battle worth fighting.

Does Death Howl successfully merge soulslike and deckbuilder mechanics? Absolutely. It’s a weird combo that somehow works. The game is challenging, original, and surprisingly fun once the loop clicks. RNG can frustrate, but if you're after something truly different, Death Howl delivers.

Death Howl has a strong central theme to it, the cards are well made, and there's a decent variety to build out decks. But it is also a game that can require a lot of repetitive grinding to make small amounts of progress, and the quests could have been better designed.

Death Howl completely won me over. It’s a roguelike that makes every combat feel different thanks to its well-designed card mechanics, which constantly force you to adapt. It never feels repetitive, and time just flew by while I was playing. The bosses deserve a special mention: they are challenging and have memorable designs, and every encounter feels unique. On top of that, the missions and environments are very well crafted and do an excellent job building atmosphere. The story also surprised me in a very positive way. It’s emotional, well told, and genuinely connects with the player. The ending hit me hard — I honestly cried.Overall, it’s a very polished and complete experience. Highly recommended for any fan of the genre and for anyone looking for a roguelike with real heart.

Death Howl is a wonderfully dark and compelling experience that truly stands **** game’s visual style is its biggest strength; the limited color palette and gritty pixel art create a unique and deeply atmospheric world that is instantly absorbing. The gameplay loop is challenging, mixing strategic choices with satisfying combat moments that feel rewarding after every **** you are looking for a game with a strong sense of atmosphere and rewarding difficulty, Death Howl delivers a powerful and memorable adventure.

Game is nothing but a bunch of random frustration where you have to read the developer's mind on how to mash cards together for very unfair and unbalanced fights. That's not the worst part though. For some unnecessary reason if you pick up a quest item you are locked from fast travel until you either drop the item or finish the quest. You could be working on a quest only to encounter a final fight that is out of your league, and end up wasting your time. Needs a lot of balancing and quality of life before becoming enjoyable
