The second season of Reacher is confident and assured in a way that's rare for genre shows these days.

This season pretty perfectly balances dark and gritty violence with a sharp sense of humor. There's no real whiplash, as both tones feel fully grounded in this specific story. While Hamm is remarkable, the true highlight here is Juno Temple.

The first three episodes divulge just enough information to keep the viewer guessing and keep audiences interested in Alec's arc, and Martin is doing good enough work to lend the storyline some real emotion. Sadly, this is the only real redeeming quality of an otherwise lackluster, familiar procedural from NBC.

I'm not sure that Krapopolis will appeal to fans of Harmon's previous shows. While the series features some of his trademark thematic musings about humanity and kindness and what it means to be connected to other people, Krapopolis isn't nearly as fresh or sharp as Harmon's previous outings.

Danny McBride's shows have always felt timely in their own unique way, but the third season of The Righteous Gemstones might be the most in tune with the current moment. It's a hilarious and mordant satire of those who use their power and privilege to exact a moral vision that runs contrary to their own way of living.

The Diplomat isn't perfect — it's not directed in a way that will garner much attention, and some of the plotting is a tad predictable — but the show is more than captivating for eight episodes. In fact, the main draw here is that the show is tightly scripted, well acted, and doesn't overstay its welcome.

Lucky Hank probably won't be for everybody because of its tone, which is sometimes difficult to pin down. Its humor can be dry and dark, and the more optimistic moments are often followed by a hard dose of reality. But if you're willing to sit with the ennui and really give the ensemble a chance, you'll be rewarded with a unique, moving, very human show.

If you're looking for a show that's confident in its rhythm, with familiar characters who won't steer too far off the well-worn path, then you'll surely find a lot to love in this third season of Ted Lasso. If you're looking for the show to adapt and shift gears, you'll be sorely disappointed.

The first two episodes of the final season suggest that these characters, no matter how much they fight against their circumstances, are trapped by powers and structures so much stronger than them. It's bleak and violent, and it's totally compelling TV.
